I'm not kidding, @pixelfed has silently shipped Live streaming support over a year ago. I don't think it's ready for prime time yet, that's why I haven't advertised it that much. I'm working to ship this within the next month π https://docs.pixelfed.org/running-pixelfed/optional-features/livestreaming/ Pixelfed Live is one of the most overlooked features we have We're working on v2 with easier deployment, first class mobile app support and improved federation! ICYMI: Pixelfed Live = Broadcast Live from Anywhere, with Chat! @dansup Is that feature part of the official Android app? Or is it a dedicated app? @dansup I think not overlooked but inpractical one due to the need of using yet another separate app on the mobile. If this feature will be integrated into the main app, probably the whole situation will be much better than actually is. People today are increasingly moving away from the need or trend for installing separate apps for every single, little thing. In the contrary, unification and integrity is the best possible way. Because fragmentation always was and will be a very bad idea. Pixelfed Groups are a major yet unique feature. You won't see Group posts in your home feed or public/network feeds. There will be a dedicated feed/page/screen for your Groups feed (that contains non-chronological groups posts) Each Group will have its own page, and you will be able to browse its feed chronologically or by most popular posts Groups will support text-only posts, comments, reactions and DMs however they will be separate Lemmy/Kbin will be supported, along with Smithereen π Another thing about the @pixelfed app you may not know: our Discovery feature uses a custom central API to show popular posts and accounts on every instance, even brand new ones! This feature highlights popular posts/accounts from pixelfed.social and mastodon.social in a clever way to ensure that every Pixelfed instance and its users can browse and discover content regardless of local content! I do plan on extending this feature later this summer π Did you know the @pixelfed app uses a deduplication algorithm on the hashtag feed? Early on we identified a pattern of accounts posting the same content on their Mastodon/Pleroma account and again on their Pixelfed account. Nobody wants to see duplicate posts, and Iβm proud of the complex yet elegant solution I shipped! Itβs the small things and attention to detail that set us apart π Kinda wild that ActivityPub is two years old now. I remember back in the summer of 2018 it seemed like a new project was announced every week. ActivityPub was only finished in March of this year, its awesome to see so many new implementations. The summer isn't over yet π @dansup here's a list, if you have any to add: https://ethercalc.org/fediverse-stacks @dansup Yeah... dang! It's hard to believe just how much happened this year :O Excited to share that Ghost is going to federate over ActivityPub and become part of the largest open publishing network in the world π

@johnonolan props to the informative webpage design! at first I thought it was just going to be a 'get early access' form. @johnonolan not only am I very very excited about your upcoming federation, but this is an absolutely beautiful announcement post π kudos! @dansup Whoever thought TikTok Notes is a good idea, definitely didn't think it through. xD @dansup Can't wait for groups! It seems great alternative for discord server! One more thing, not only am I releasing Pixelfed Groups but also an api spec and open source groups mobile app that will be compatible with any server that implements the simple api spec! The api spec is different from the fediverse spec, and we aim to be compatible with other implementations! A dedicated Groups app with multiple account support, push notifications and share extensions will go a long way to help standardize the experience. I do have a FEP planned for the ap side! @dansup cool stuff. Is there any documentation about this? Id like to known more... @dansup One question, is Pixelfed Groups a separate app from Pixelfed vanilla? Pixelfed Groups has a feature called SlowJoin mode that allows you to define fine-grained permission limits for several actions. In addition, all group activities from users, mods and admins are logged in an easy to browse Interaction Log. Should you need to apply limits to a specific member, you can limit most actions on the member tab! We pioneered the concept of cross group moderation in 2021, and are in the final stages of implementation. Pixelfed Groups will support private or local-only groups! In addition, we will offer many features and settings to make managing your group, moderators and users more effective and easier!

If a desktop environment follows you, would you feel the obligation to try it? Like its almost as if this was meant to be, it looks similar to MacOS which I use atm... spooky

@dansup I absolutely love Gnome. If you're more of a no icon on my desktop kind of guy, it's for you. If you like a busy desktop with everything right in your face then you won't like it. Being the bigger person isn't always easy, see my complicated relationship with Meta for example I do feel like I have to stand up for myself and remind people that I've been against Meta from the beginning but as I tried to be a good developer by listening to user feedback, I had to compromise and add domain blocks, and as a result several people accused me of colluding with Meta or whatever. Heck if you do, heck if you don't I don't let it get to me, I have more important things to build π I boosted the GoFundMe of my harshest critic, after apologizing and offering to collaborate to resolve the underlying issues He ignored me, then blocked me, and continues to spread hatred about me and Pixelfed Yeah, I've made mistakes but I've learned from them and hold myself publicly accountable with brutal honesty I wish his project all the best, it's sad we can't get along, or have basic respect for each other, but I guess that is what sets us apart @dansup@mastodon.social It's sad People like that exist. @dansup@mastodon.social You're one of the best ambassadors for any project I've ever seen. Even when we disagree, you're still graceful and willing to change, and that's a wondrous rarity. |
