Loops has a simple For You algorithm to show relevant interests and topics, it will get better over time like my Autospam algorithm! The way it works is pretty clever, using a combination of on-device machine learning and nlp we use plenty of “signals” to classify content and associate it accordingly. This is more than just short videos, helping people discover relevant content is crucial to our mission and I look forward to building the best fediverse For You feed 😎

Why is Loops getting Push Notifications before the Pixelfed app? Complexity, in Loops its under 50 LoC for Push Notification support since we are using Expo Notifications. For Pixelfed, we need to build WebPush support in the backend, and then setup a proxy server. That being said, I expect them to land in Pixelfed later this summer!

@dansup @loops I'm withholding judgment until the final app comes out, but I have a lot of questions. What will discovery be like? How will you handle the server load? Is this just going to be vertical PeerTube? How will you search between instances? Will there be Public/Federated/Home timelines? I'm looking forward to seeing the results!

Why not show the username of the new follower right in the notification? This feels like one of those growth-hacking dark patterns no one likes.

@dansup Yes! I know that people who are into fedi are generally anti algo, but I personally love learning/interacting with random people. I don't think I have an issue with an algo, but an algo I can't control. Like an algo I can tweak to serve me more diverse content is literally good

@dansup As this made the on boarding of Threads made so good, don't forget the "Follow if they join" button there.
If I sign up as the first person and see 200 Mastodon "friends" that aren't there yet, I want to "follow" them. I don't want 200 notifications with »Person joined, follow?«. They should be followed by joining already, if I chose so.
So please "copy the homework" completely or even improve it a bit.
@dansup whatever you guys do, make it convenient and appealing to a broad audience but don't make it addictive.
