I'm not kidding, @pixelfed has silently shipped Live streaming support over a year ago. I don't think it's ready for prime time yet, that's why I haven't advertised it that much. I'm working to ship this within the next month 🚀 https://docs.pixelfed.org/running-pixelfed/optional-features/livestreaming/ I can't wait to go Live from @pixelfed with someone else, and for my followers to get a push notification that I went live, and once they click on it, the @pixelfed app opens to my Live stream where I answer questions in real time from users on the Live stream chat! The code for this exists btw*, it's just a matter of polishing and preparing! * - https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/blob/dev/app/Services/LiveStreamService.php#L18 It's easy to be an asshole maintainer. Being able to put ego aside, handle constructive criticism and acknowledge your mistakes isn't so easy. When I got my first webdev negative criticism about a poor design, it wrecked me. It inspired me to be better, and now I'm much more proud of my work. It also taught me to be kinder and more receptive to criticism, and now I live for your feedback. Pixelfed is powered by people, people like you, I just write the code ❤️ It is great that you are keeping the conversation going. Even if we disagree, being able to talk directly to the lead maintainer and the maintainer replying directly is brilliant and in the spirit of the Fediverse :) @edendestroyer It's okay, your feedback made me rethink a few things and I worked to fix it and hoped that you'd re-follow me after you migrated as a sign that you reconsidered the situation and I was able to showcase the values that I've long held in a way you'd appreciate and that you wouldn't think I would sell out or work against the community I worked so hard to build. I've appreciated your support as a Pixelfed user, and hope you stick with us and we can move past this! I implemented groups in @pixelfed back in 2021, but never shipped it It lead to Mastodon and other projects to start working on groups too The main reason I've been holding off is because I want to get this right and provide a FB like groups experience I'm no longer putting this off, and @pixelfed Groups will set a high bar in terms of group administration, moderation and portability. It's not who did it first, it's who did it right 😎

Cool, though facebook-groups was always pretty crappy wasn't it? I'm sure you can find better ways to index and order posts than whatever mad algorithm they used. You may also want to look at the Flickr group experience; IMHO, it works nicely for themed photography, and has useful affordances such as configurable per-user throttling @dansup Thanks for all your hard work Dan. The Pixelfed app is coming along so nicely and I’m really grateful to have a safe space to share my photos and videos. You do great work 🙌 This person has been harassing me and multiple other ActivityPub developers for years because he was rejected from NLnet several times. He even tried to complain to NLnet about me and get my grant cancelled. - I don't lie or make bad jokes about other implementors, quite the opposite - I haven't lied about meta, ask them if they met with me - Attend meetings with you? I have screenshots too. Edit: removed fedi.camp mentions as I learned he does not run that, sorry about that There are several incidents where he attacked the OP or would reply to posts with obscene photos. I wouldn't recommend anything he is associated with, he is unhinged lmao The past few days have been tough, but I’m doing better now. Will be going camping this weekend, a much needed vacation! I’m working on improving administration tools in the Pixelfed app so I can manage my instances while camping, and having fun building a mobile app dashboard! Thanks for all the kind words, those few bad apples I will ignore ❤️

@dansup Have a great time and hope it is a perfect window to unplug and so glad you are sticking around. Ignoring the few bad apples sounds super-wise. @dansup Have a great camping trip! Everyone needs and deserves a break from time to time. Pixelfed does not display text-only posts in timelines, regardless of who we block, P92 posts won't be seen in Pixelfed feeds. Furthermore, instead of an outright ban, pixelfed.social/art will silence P92, allowing users to opt to follow P92 accounts, or use a domain block to make that choice themselves. I hope this clears up any confusion.

I was contacted by someone who suggested using the lemmy-explorer dataset for lemmy instances, so I added them. Lemmy is now at 289k users! Thanks to everyone who reached out, fediDB.org and fediverse.info will remain online going forward. I'm not going anywhere either, though I think I need a break from the fediverse for a few days.

@dansup Dan, you’ve done amazing work with this and pixelfed, don’t throw it all away over some trolls and drama. Take a week off; hell, take a month or two. But clear your head and come back less angry and hurt. This will all still be here (yes, the good *and* the bad), ready to be made better.

@dansup Know that for every a**hole who dogpiled you because you don't meet their definition of ideological purity, there are 30 people who appreciate your selfless, volunteer efforts. I think Lemmy will not only overtake PeerTube, but also Misskey, and Kbin will surge to 200k users within the next month. #threadiverse

@Daniel Supernault does fedidb.org already offer the possibility to bet on fedi market share?
@dansup Hey! Wondering if you have considered removing the instances that are experiencing automated spam sign-ups. The data the graph is showing right now is not very useful to gauge the growth of the threadiverse. You can find some more info and a list of these instances here: https://lemm.ee/post/197715 The @threadcount bot uses the #fediDB API (without api keys or signup req'd) Pretty cool! https://github.com/taobojlen/threadcount/blob/main/src/threadcount.ts#L32 #threadiverse Visualize the Anti-Meta Fedi Pact via #fediDB! https://fedidb.org/current-events/anti-meta-fedi-pact Special thanks to @vantablack for organizing this!
