Happy belated birthday @kainoa !!! Maybe I’ll do a calckey rap as a present 😎 🤣

dansup

Oh it’s good to be back to #pixeldev!

Just shipped a big fix for authorized fetch, now working on Import from IG improvements, then going to jump on some mobile app refactoring.

The app is like 80% ready for release IMO, but still needs some major work when it comes to FlatList image layout shifting, comment threading and thumbnail previews. Good news is that those wont take long, and I can squeeze in push notifications & stories before the big public release!

PhilipKing

@dansup Thank you, will it be possible to follow #hashtags and to edit posts?

David Bruchmann

@dansup what's the difference between pixeldev and pixelfed (according to your use of the 'words')?

dansup

FediDB.org will be unlisting Lemmy instances with excessive spam accounts and few MAU effective June 28th.

If the unlisted instances do not remove spam accounts and still report inflated user counts a month later, they will be banned.

@dansup how do you know that the accounts are spam? Maybe a lot of Reddit users creating accounts without posting. I did this on kbin. Created an account, but until now I did not post anything.

Milan

@dansup oh wow... looks like some admins didnt care so much ... tho looking at tens of thausands of accounts vs ten active people... that cleanup job can be quite a challenge depending on skill level

dansup

I have reconsidered this and will no longer be unlisting lemmy instances with large number of spam signups.

Instead I'd like to explore a way to label potential spam instances in a way that doesn't exclude instances.

Back from camping! Had a great time, looking forward to getting back to @pixelfed development 😁

slade 🏳️‍🌈

@dansup @pixelfed nice to have a little getaway! I know I always come back from those feeling refreshed, so I hope you do too 💙💙

Nevarius

@dansup @pixelfed perfect! Looking forward and crossing fingers for you ☺️

dansup

Being able to delete a spam account 10 seconds after registration, from anywhere, with one click, feels like magic.

@pixelfed makes admin easy 😎

dansup

Having a blast camping, a much needed break!

Luckily I can manage my @pixelfed instances easily via the mobile app 😉

Oh and this campsite has 5G coverage! Going to bring out my telescope tomorrow and grab some #astrophotography pics, I’m new at this so don’t expect much lol

dansup

Finally upgraded my 2020 Air to a 2023 MBP with double the storage!!

I had to constantly delete xcode/android sdks or a copy of pixelfed.social prod database for testing, now I have room for both and more 😄

It's so much faster too, sadly I'm going camping this weekend so I won't get to use it much.

As my partner says, it will still be here when I get back 😅

@dansup imagine upgrading your whole ass laptop just to get more storage...

Jeze3D.exe v0.0.7

@dansup I just got my first MacBook. The new 15” air and I adore it.

dansup

Hmm, I might use activitypub.social for a Discourse forum now that it federates!

Andy McGuire 🐕

@dansup does that mean a discourse app will be added to your growing list of impossible to meet (for an average human) tasks? 😂

It's been a productive week, despite everything that happened!

- Shipped Threadiverse fedidb page
- Revived my ActivityPub Developer Tools, shipping soon
- Made progress on several mobile app features/improvements
- Started a new Kbin app
- Improved Pixelfed moderation tools
- Reached out to someone who may be able to help improve safety/moderation (if he is willing)

Let's go 🚀

@dansup How is the Pixelfed iOS app coming? Apps are the main way that people access services. Perhaps pause on new features for a while?

ilyess

@dansup out of curiosity, what made you pick Kbin over Lemmy to build an app for?

dansup

I'm still laser focused on the @pixelfed app, but I now have a lot of experience with React Native and building production Android/iOS apps.

My goal is to lay the framework and basics for the Kbin app, in the open, and encourage the Kbin community to contribute and steward the direction.

Ultimately, my goal is to work closely with @ernest and for him to have veto over any changes I make until it's formally handed over.

Cloaker

@dansup @pixelfed @ernest would be awesome to have the app open sourced. Would love to help.

ash

@dansup @pixelfed @ernest

Thanks a million !! I have a pixelfed account & have made one post there; I'll be more active (God willing) & really appreciate u for all that u do :))

p.s. It's not that im stuck using Insta ; I simply havent dedicated time to photo-sharing yet ^•^

Más éxito para ustedes !! 🌸

Mustafa Albazy

@dansup @pixelfed @ernest Make sure you make it multilingual and support LTR/RTL. reddit for years ignored all the non-English communities, Fediverse shouldn’t repeat that mistake.

dansup

Decided I'm going to go ahead with my Kbin mobile app.

Yeah I know i have a lot on the go, but I use Apollo daily, and want a solid Apollo like experience for Kbin.

I'm willing to hand over the project to Kbin if they want, and would love to work closely with the developer on this if possible.

Will be starting this next week, after my camping trip! It will be open source from the start, and contributors will be gladly welcomed! #kbin

@dansup I'm confused about Kbin vs Lemmy 🤷

Rando

@dansup man it would be great if you made one, the pixelfed app is top notch

Deknoz

@dansup if you need any beta testers I already have TestFlight and used to beta test Apollo!

dansup

Total users != Active users

Kbin has more active users than Lemmy!

Anyone can inflate user counts, but active users are a better signal to determine growth 😉 #fediDB #threadiverse

@dansup IMHO, kbin’s interface is a little more intuitive.

DELETED

@dansup Problem is that Kbin is a PAIN to use. Lemmy is FAR better in function and appearance.

I made a Kbin account but quickly ran into issues trying to create a new community and the only way to "fix" it was to delete the account... Not ideal.

vuñuelo

@dansup Hasn't Ernest said Kbin doesn't really keep track of active users? I don't think they are equivalent metrics either.

dansup

✨ Updated FediDB Stats

The Threadiverse page now includes Active Users, and a note about lemmy spambot signups.

In addition, the Top 20 Fastest growing #threadiverse instances are now sorted by active users to give a more accurate overview!

dansup

I'm resurrecting my old FediDB developer tools to do some testing in Pixelfed, will be open sourcing the redesigned testing service soon!

This will make ActivityPub development much easier, and being able to test against other implementations without having to setup test instances is a game changer.

@dansup I agree. Working on a new project with ActivityPub. Can't wait to play with your tool!

@dansup pixelfed for vision pro real???!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!??!?!??!?

dansup

At this rate, Lemmy will have more users than Mastodon by the end of the month.

The majority of this growth comes from instances with thousands of users and 1 post, suggesting that the growth is largely spambot driven.

fedidb.org/current-events/thre #fediDB

dansup

I am aware of a huge surge in bot signups on Lemmy, and will give Lemmy instances 1 week to resolve this (and delete the accounts) before they are removed from FediDB.

Oblomov

@dansup I like the attitude.
