Oh it’s good to be back to #pixeldev! Just shipped a big fix for authorized fetch, now working on Import from IG improvements, then going to jump on some mobile app refactoring. The app is like 80% ready for release IMO, but still needs some major work when it comes to FlatList image layout shifting, comment threading and thumbnail previews. Good news is that those wont take long, and I can squeeze in push notifications & stories before the big public release! @dansup what's the difference between pixeldev and pixelfed (according to your use of the 'words')? FediDB.org will be unlisting Lemmy instances with excessive spam accounts and few MAU effective June 28th. If the unlisted instances do not remove spam accounts and still report inflated user counts a month later, they will be banned.

I have reconsidered this and will no longer be unlisting lemmy instances with large number of spam signups. Instead I'd like to explore a way to label potential spam instances in a way that doesn't exclude instances. Having a blast camping, a much needed break! Luckily I can manage my @pixelfed instances easily via the mobile app 😉 Oh and this campsite has 5G coverage! Going to bring out my telescope tomorrow and grab some #astrophotography pics, I’m new at this so don’t expect much lol
[DATA EXPUNGED]
Finally upgraded my 2020 Air to a 2023 MBP with double the storage!! I had to constantly delete xcode/android sdks or a copy of pixelfed.social prod database for testing, now I have room for both and more 😄 It's so much faster too, sadly I'm going camping this weekend so I won't get to use it much. As my partner says, it will still be here when I get back 😅

@dansup does that mean a discourse app will be added to your growing list of impossible to meet (for an average human) tasks? 😂 "You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things"

@dansup How is the Pixelfed iOS app coming? Apps are the main way that people access services. Perhaps pause on new features for a while? Roze (Forgive) - Fred Again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfCmuyxnEUs #np #fediplay #fredAgain I'm still laser focused on the @pixelfed app, but I now have a lot of experience with React Native and building production Android/iOS apps. My goal is to lay the framework and basics for the Kbin app, in the open, and encourage the Kbin community to contribute and steward the direction. Ultimately, my goal is to work closely with @ernest and for him to have veto over any changes I make until it's formally handed over. Thanks a million !! I have a pixelfed account & have made one post there; I'll be more active (God willing) & really appreciate u for all that u do :)) p.s. It's not that im stuck using Insta ; I simply havent dedicated time to photo-sharing yet ^•^ Más éxito para ustedes !! 🌸 Decided I'm going to go ahead with my Kbin mobile app. Yeah I know i have a lot on the go, but I use Apollo daily, and want a solid Apollo like experience for Kbin. I'm willing to hand over the project to Kbin if they want, and would love to work closely with the developer on this if possible. Will be starting this next week, after my camping trip! It will be open source from the start, and contributors will be gladly welcomed! #kbin

Total users != Active users Kbin has more active users than Lemmy! Anyone can inflate user counts, but active users are a better signal to determine growth 😉 #fediDB #threadiverse

✨ Updated FediDB Stats The Threadiverse page now includes Active Users, and a note about lemmy spambot signups. In addition, the Top 20 Fastest growing #threadiverse instances are now sorted by active users to give a more accurate overview! I'm resurrecting my old FediDB developer tools to do some testing in Pixelfed, will be open sourcing the redesigned testing service soon! This will make ActivityPub development much easier, and being able to test against other implementations without having to setup test instances is a game changer.

At this rate, Lemmy will have more users than Mastodon by the end of the month. The majority of this growth comes from instances with thousands of users and 1 post, suggesting that the growth is largely spambot driven. I am aware of a huge surge in bot signups on Lemmy, and will give Lemmy instances 1 week to resolve this (and delete the accounts) before they are removed from FediDB. |
