Excited to share that Ghost is going to federate over ActivityPub and become part of the largest open publishing network in the world 🎉 @dansup Whoever thought TikTok Notes is a good idea, definitely didn't think it through. xD One more thing, not only am I releasing Pixelfed Groups but also an api spec and open source groups mobile app that will be compatible with any server that implements the simple api spec! The api spec is different from the fediverse spec, and we aim to be compatible with other implementations! A dedicated Groups app with multiple account support, push notifications and share extensions will go a long way to help standardize the experience. I do have a FEP planned for the ap side! @dansup cool stuff. Is there any documentation about this? Id like to known more... @dansup One question, is Pixelfed Groups a separate app from Pixelfed vanilla? Pixelfed Groups has a feature called SlowJoin mode that allows you to define fine-grained permission limits for several actions. In addition, all group activities from users, mods and admins are logged in an easy to browse Interaction Log. Should you need to apply limits to a specific member, you can limit most actions on the member tab! We pioneered the concept of cross group moderation in 2021, and are in the final stages of implementation. Pixelfed Groups will support private or local-only groups! In addition, we will offer many features and settings to make managing your group, moderators and users more effective and easier!

If a desktop environment follows you, would you feel the obligation to try it? Like its almost as if this was meant to be, it looks similar to MacOS which I use atm... spooky

@dansup I absolutely love Gnome. If you're more of a no icon on my desktop kind of guy, it's for you. If you like a busy desktop with everything right in your face then you won't like it. Being the bigger person isn't always easy, see my complicated relationship with Meta for example I do feel like I have to stand up for myself and remind people that I've been against Meta from the beginning but as I tried to be a good developer by listening to user feedback, I had to compromise and add domain blocks, and as a result several people accused me of colluding with Meta or whatever. Heck if you do, heck if you don't I don't let it get to me, I have more important things to build 😉 I boosted the GoFundMe of my harshest critic, after apologizing and offering to collaborate to resolve the underlying issues He ignored me, then blocked me, and continues to spread hatred about me and Pixelfed Yeah, I've made mistakes but I've learned from them and hold myself publicly accountable with brutal honesty I wish his project all the best, it's sad we can't get along, or have basic respect for each other, but I guess that is what sets us apart @dansup@mastodon.social It's sad People like that exist. @dansup@mastodon.social You're one of the best ambassadors for any project I've ever seen. Even when we disagree, you're still graceful and willing to change, and that's a wondrous rarity. I stumbled upon my first follow friday post full of fediverse developers, from 2018. Half of them have transitioned and that makes me so happy! I came out as gay in 2020 and it's amazing to see how inclusivity has evolved within the fediverse, fostering an environment where everyone can be their authentic selves. Let's keep celebrating each other's journeys and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome ❤️ I was pleasantly surprised to see the Prismo developer join our Discord, he is back and working on a new fediverse project (unrelated to Prismo) It kinda feels like the summer of 2018 all over again, so many interesting ActivityPub projects in the works This makes me so happy 😁 There are so many amazing people pushing the fediverse forward, it makes me so happy and proud to be a part of this historic shift in social media. Open source social platforms and protocols ftw 🚀 Okay, so, remember how I had some big news? Well, I didn't get to announce it yesterday as I was unwell (I've been unwell most of the month and could really do with extra financial support right now!) The big news is that my FIRES project has been granted funding by NLNet (@NGIZero) Entrust fund. What is FIRES? It's a project I've been slowly working since September last year, and provides a server for maintaining and distributing moderation advisories and recommendations.

just a little question: who the heck are you to tell others how to manage their own instances? @thisismissem @NGIZero Soooo happy for you girl!! I remember the miscommunication and how difficult that was, and I’m glad you did resolve it because this project will have such an impact across many fediverse projects!! You totally deserve this, and I’m glad your hard work is being acknowledged and funded! You’re a fucking fediverse rockstar, and now you’ll shine even brighter with the grant and resources to see this through. Gosh I’m just so happy for you ❤️ I got a bit sidetracked tonight, it was brought to my attention that Pixelfed embeds were loading several MB of css/js assets. Just finished refactoring embeds with inline css and js, and way more efficient backend logic! Before vs After The Pixelfed mobile app hashtag feed is awesome, not only can you browse quickly with the 3 column grid but you can also follow tags and discover related hashtags. I have a few ideas on how we can generate related hashtags so admins don’t have to manually associate them, love challenges like these 😎 |
@johnonolan Great news!
>There are multiple ways of supporting gated access to content in ActivityPub, and we're going to do our best to create a seamless experience both for publishers and for readers.
I've built an ActivityPub powered content subscription service called Mitra. Right now it uses direct messages to distribute subscriber-only posts. This method is compatible with most Fediverse micro-blogging services, but doesn't scale, so I'm doing research on federated private groups. I also wrote (and implemented) a specification for federated payments: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/branch/main/fep/0837/fep-0837.md
Looking forward to working together on standards for subscription services

@johnonolan props to the informative webpage design! at first I thought it was just going to be a 'get early access' form.
@johnonolan not only am I very very excited about your upcoming federation, but this is an absolutely beautiful announcement post 😍 kudos!
