Boss made a dollar
I made a dime
That was a poem
From a simpler time.

Now boss makes a thousand
And gives us a cent
While he's got employees
Who can't pay rent.

When boss makes a million
And the workers make jack
That's when we fight
And take our lives back.

@ErikUden Still liked it better the first time I saw someone share this, with "take the means back".

Boss makes a dollar

Send the boss packing
'cause that's still a crime

The auth credentials you can't change or intentionally lose is not really a great security model.

As always, domestic abuse is _the_ flagship infosec threat model, the one where the victim has the least resources, the least recourse, where they're closest to immediate physical harm.

That this industry has failed at and mostly abandoned the idea of even pretending to try dealing with a threat model that's difficult and unprofitable and mostly hurts women is not news, but this new Windows Recall feature is next-level professional negligence.

Dennis Schubert

@mhoye I got called an "AI hater" for pointing out exactly that (and the potential abuse by law enforcement) in mastodon.schub.social/@denschu and ... in a chat-thingie.

I love working in tech. :this_is_fine:

(but, to be fair to them, "AI hater" *is* correct.)

@mhoye change the xkcd cartoon from govt agents beating someone with a wrench to an abusive husband beating someone with a wrench, and maybe these sheltered nerds will believe it.

Panel 1:
(A crypto nerd's imagination)
A: this laptop's encrypted. Let's build a million-dollar cluster to crack it.
B: no good! It's 4096-bit RSA!
A: blast! Our evil plan is filled!

Panel 2:
(What would actually happen)
A: His laptop's encrypted. Drug him and hit him with this $5 wrench until he tells us the password.
B: got it.

@drq and they're not wrong! The quiet part is that *they* chose this to be the case. Better yet, they even managed to convince their players that it's justified by making competition less visible and convenient. You have to actively go look for competitors to get the best bang for your buck these days.

And one thing these tools didn't fix much is playtesting. It needs time from management, willing volunteers, a decently running build of the game, attention from creative leadership and game designers and, the hardest part, learning to accept some losses in failed experiments. And we know how they handle experimentation.

I've seen a lot of people rightfully discussing the privacy implications of Windows Recall but not as many mention that this "feature" is going to lead to people unintentionally breaking NDAs when their Recall data gets leaked from a malware.

@BrodieOnLinux Is NDA breach applicable when your workstation gets hacked?

привет, @rf@mastodon.ml !

спасибо за ответы :neofox_floof_cute:
UPD: забыла уточнить: желательно с сабами

I'll grant it to you, Microsoft, Recall looks like a useful feature, especially for people like me who can and will forget what the fuck were they doing last week.

Fuck, I mean, I had to make a whole podcast dedicated specifically to that and host it for 2,5 years.

Where's the guarantee though that the copilot's data stays on my computer? Where's the guarantee that it's only me who has the access to the data recorded?

Where's the source code, you pricks? Or is the feature just an excuse for you spying on us?

It's funny how there is now a plethora of tools and engines that make game development easier and more efficient, and the corporations are still like "ThE GaMeS aRe ToO ExPeNsIvE tO mAkE".

@drq Я так полагаю, что дорого оно в основном из-за высокополигональных моделей, текстур высокого разрешения и motion capture. В общем, всего того, что программисты не упростили(не им же с этим работать))
