@pixelfed this was also me learning there's an official app 😱

rzeczyspisane

@pixelfed will it be possible to download stories or it has to be a fork/workaround made by a community?

pork_slam

@pixelfed will this also be available on an android app? At the moment I use pixeldroid, but I'm unsure about it's UI. The one your showing looks more friendly.

@pixelfed What is so amazing about stories that disappear after 24 hours (comparing to stories that do not expire)?

I understand that the only difference is that you have to rush to your smartphone/computer in order to "not miss" the story before it expires. This encourages more use of digital screens - or you will have a sense of missing out (i.e. advancing Fear Of Missing Out, #FOMO, among people).

@chlopmarcin @pixelfed it's commonly accepted to put less effort into stories. Eases the internal perfectionist's grip.
It's a common problem on photosharing websites, that one should only post quality shots there 🤷‍♂️

@chlopmarcin @pixelfed I agree, this feels like it is optimizing for screen time and “engagement” metrics and not for end user wellbeing

Just because everyone else does something doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do. But without knowing the internal metrics being used to quantify success it is all a guessing game

@pixelfed will there be any chance that we could import via json our archive of stories from IG??

Sunil

@pixelfed Why can’t I find the app in iOS App Store?

pork_slam

@sunil @pixelfed from what I understand it's still in. However, I think the version for IOS is more polished than the one released for android.

@pixelfed Oh no, another app who is implementing this useless features only a handful people use in other apps.

And I don't even ask why, because the answer would be: "Other do it, we do it, too!"

Why even bothering to create a picture and upload it, if it gets deleted after 24 hours?

The picture can't be interesting at all! It's just another feature to say "It's appreciated to puke into the internet".

What a waste of resources!

btw. I thought #fediverse apps wanted to be a little bit more different from the data collecting originals and it's about the people and the social aspect and not about mindlessly consuming...

@pixelfed Why on earth do you have to copy everything from Meta? Can it at least be turned off?

Oliver

@pixelfed what can I do if upload of photos is not working. And instagram imports does import everything but the photos?

Franklinovitch

@pixelfed Why would you introduce FOMO in the fediverse?

LinuxGamer

@pixelfed looks great, one suggestion is maybe change the colours in the gradient as they highly resemble Instagram's ones, and Meta loves money :)

DELETED

@pixelfed This is really cool and exciting. Weird that there’s people getting upset as if they contributed to the project or paid money. It’s a feature they simply do not have to use. It’s great for those that want the feature

@pixelfed I was trying this out today, and it seems that stories aren’t federated outside of Pixelfed. So if someone follows my pixelfed account from Mastodon, they don’t get notified of any of the story content. Is that correct? ActivityPub / Mastodon COULD handle displaying these posts, and even deleting them after the set time. Maybe display them in a threaded post as a sort of collection as they get added?

dansup

@box464 @pixelfed Stories are not federated to other implementations because they are not normal posts.

If other platforms add support for Stories that are displayed in a similar format, we will revisit this.
