If anything, meeting people from different backgrounds helps dispell some of my own biases, it makes me more open-minded, more tolerant. @rek That's why it's so bad for society when people lock themselves into their online filter bubbles and stop conversing with their neighbors, strangers, etc... Their ability to be tolerant diminishes and the result is more and more extreme manifestations of disapproval of other people's opinions. Well that's just how I feel about it. And yes I realize the irony of opining about filter bubbles right here on Mastodon...🤐

@tty I I have a tendency to be very wary of others, defensive too, but it hasn't served me well. I'm not saying I trust them, but if people approach me to talk to me, or if they talk about things I don't agree with I try and not judge them too quickly. @tty When the guy asked me what was in the pressure sprayer I had a moment when i couldnt believe he was asking me that, i was thinking 'hey c'mon im not THAT stupid/irresponsible'. I thought that only because ppl judge me sometimes, because of how i dress (old black clothes), or my perceived gender(im doing something badly/wrong), and make assumptions about me & im super sensitive to that. |
The guy and his partner had just bought a large fancy power boat, trying to enjoy life now that his health was better.
Being at a dock is always an interesting experience, we share the space with people we'd never get to talk to otherwise, often people with more means, that don't always share our values... but there's always something to learn, and despite our differences it is always pleasant.
