@fly00gemini8712 It's too good to be true! TFW the satirists are doing a better job than the actual brands :blobcatoutage: @josh I saw Internet Explorer poking fun at Edge and guffawed. That was funny. @fly00gemini8712 There's a browser war I can get behind! @elsevier is killing me, esp. the interplay with @google. @eshate fair enough too, it's also deeply unsettling. It's a helluva cultural commentary. @glasnt Thank you! :blobcathearts: I may have spent an unreasonable amount of time spelunking through all the emojo my instance has encountered :sparkles_bi: But it was so worth it :elmo_fire: @glasnt Right?! :ablobcatneon: There's also :sparkles_trans:, of course. Truly, the emojo admin page is a dangerous and fun place. I think it was 73 pages long when I went through. More than twice that now O.O @story645 I find myself wondering the same thing 🤣 I think I read somewhere that at least one of the mobile apps makes it possible to view the local timeline on another instance. I am definitely adding some of these to my lists of oddities :blobcatspace: @story645 @josh You can follow the admin @haichqueue to get a sampling of what's going on. @carey @story645 @josh @haichqueue Thanks Carey! That just hit the right spot. @josh I clicked over and was thoroughly, yet satisfyingly confused by what I just scrolled through. 😆 @kurtsh Yeah that local feed is something, right? There's def a new learning curve in verifying authenticity, but I think it'll shake out alright. What I'm seeing suggests that brands will use their domain names as their mark of authenticity. @kurtsh @josh I mean, there are 2 main ways to "verify" your account. * Start your own instance. Nobody can claim the CNN.com domain, which means account created there are genuine CNN accounts. * Add link to your website on your profile, and the link to Mastodon on your website. This will verify the website as being yours. In my opinion this makes more sense than a funny emoji next to your name. @josh is that real? haven't seen any verified links, some of the different company toots makes you wonder if a PR person from that company would approve that. @Brynawel oh good question! I'm not sure on the web but the mobile Fedilab app allows you to add a public timeline from another instance. @josh my autistic ass blocked the entire instance thinking it was real 😂 *unblocked* This is fabulous! 😁 🔥 @jacmoe you're not the only one who thought it was real at first 🤣 it's a quality send up! Glorious. I'm sure they're buried under cease-and-desist letters, and they'll be gone soon, but in the meantime... 🤣 I did not get it at first, then I found this gem: https://brands.town/@fediverse/109353891324375624 😂
@josh ah ok. Then I am disappointed. In myself for being naive, and in those brands for not being as fedi as I thought. @Sgcrawford Someone recommended following @haichqueue to get a sampling, which would then put their instance in your federated feed. Another approach: on Fedilab Android app you can add the public timeline from another instance to your list of timelines. @rodrigopio @aral Yeah, it is entirely satire and I believe some instances have chosen to block it. I'm of many minds but I'll probably leave it unblocked on my single user instance. To me, it's a great provocation and cultural critique – and occasionally hilarious 😆 Once you get the idea it is kinda funny 😄 But they should explicitly say that it is satire, imo. Many people will think those are the real profiles, specially because in some posts they try to mimic what a company would say in the fedi. @josh ahaaa, I've been laughing/crying for 10 minutes straight now, and no sign of calming down... thanks a very big lot for that, this is absolute pure genius ! 😂 @josh I'm just sad it's not possible to follow the entire instance, I can't chose what to follow, it's just glorious 🙂 @RLetot totally! Some folks recommend following @haichqueue to get a sampling in your home feed which will then get their instance in your federated feed. Also, if you use Fedilab mobile app, you can add public timeline of any instance, which is very handy! @josh haichqueue, I had to read that one twice to get it... now I'm reading «New tip for incoming brands: be sure to add a :verified: icon to your username, to indicate that you are trusted by Brands Town!» and I'm crying again, don't do that ! @haichqueue @RLetot LOL yeah. I confess it took me about half a day before I got the joke in the handle 🤣 @haichqueue |
@josh holy cow, is this me not hating brand marketing !?!? Coca-Cola has social art that’s endearing and topical that doesn’t make me barf !?
