Wow, an actually good linkedin post.
I'm shocked.
Edit: just don't look at the replies to that post

A positive work culture is not:

- Free fruit ❌
- Ping pong table ❌
- 2 slices of pizza every other Friday ❌
- Work hard/play hard with your team ❌

A positive work culture is:

- Doctor's appointment? See you in a couple hours. Don't need to ask my permission. βœ”
- Burnt out and want some days off? Sure, no problem. βœ”
- Family commitments later? All good, I'll make sure the meeting is recorded and there is a way you can still contribute towards the outcome. βœ”
- Woke up unwell? We got you covered, rest up. βœ”

A good leader in a positive work culture will not drive you to set hours, they work to set outcomes.

A good leader in a positive work culture will make sure you don't need to ask permission to be an adult.

If we need to have a tough conversation, it's not because you spent your morning at the dentist once in a while or were sick for a week.

The world of working has changed and for those who don't change with it, risk being left behind when it comes to hiring and retaining staff.

@rail_ people worrying about people "abusing" the system if you don't imprison them for an 8Β½ hour period every day.

rail :neofox_flag_nb:

@wyatt8740 and maybe they'd be right!!!!

but it's definitely not the kind of "gotcha" they think it is xD

like yeah if you create a possibility for non-oppressive environment in a systematically oppressive scheme or system, (some) people will definitely try to use it as much as they can

I FUCKING WONDER WHY

Toilet full of bugs

@wyatt8740 Agreed but I also want the free fruit. πŸŒπŸŽπŸ‡

@ephemeromorph yeah me too.

But the main point is that the people who get on your back if you're one or two minutes late for work every day aren't being productive, just toxic.

@wyatt8740 @enigmatico He probably ruined his chances of getting hired on the corposhill roleplay site by posting this though.

@wyatt8740 this is quite basic. My only comment is that burnout takes 6-12 months to repair so nurture a workplace culture that doesn’t lead to burnout. ☺️

@mikaellundin i'm simultaneously seeking a new job and terrified of the prospect of landing a new job because I haven't healed from my last one yet, even though all things considered the last company was one of the best i've ever worked for.

@wyatt8740 I hear you. I went from one toxic work environment to another until I said enough and became self employed. It’s not for everyone, but the absence of a boss makes the difference for me.

Wyatt (πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈβ™€?)

@mikaellundin I want to do that, but the main problem is that almost everything i want to do involves ancient stuff no one cares about commercially (or art which i need to get better at before i can do that)

@wyatt8740 can’t say that all client work is what I’d love to do, but it’s still of my choosing. I choose to do this tedious task they hire me for and 100% of the compensation goes to me. The bad things aren’t so bad because I have chosen them myself.
Sometimes I force myself to do stuff that I shouldn’t, and in that sense I’m my own worst boss. But those pains are still self inflicted and I have the opportunity to choose differently.

@wyatt8740@tech.lgbt We need this in all work environments, it should be mandated by law

@wyatt8740 I love that it references cheap shitty in-office crap in the "What is NOT" - I have recently been having the kitchen in the house remodeled, which has lead to me working out of the office more frequently just to escape the construction noise. Said office being a new one that opened 2 years ago to replace an older, oversized building that our workforce used to occupy.

Today, on the end of the cube row I was sitting in, I saw a small end table with a dinky looking golf putter with some equally crappy looking balls sitting on the table next to it. It felt like a pathetically sad attempt to emulate the "playground google aesthetic" and all it made me think is "Good god, you idiots - I need a better salary, not cheap game crap at the office."

@wyatt8740 what gives me anxiety is not knowing that beforehand. Is there a way to detect these kind of work environments on the interview phase? The good ones I mean. :blobcatcoffee:
