@Hunterrules0_o@techhub.social @frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org yea, might be a hard price point but id love somethign 500 euro or lower @Hunterrules0_o @frameworkcomputer well tbf, the laptop itself just is expensive. they're a startup and they just in general just have low margins. They won't make old boards on purpose, but they have put up refurbished boards on their store at times @thibaultmol @frameworkcomputer yeah its bad to reach for such high expectations. There are limits on stuff that companies cant control. /srs @Hunterrules0_o @frameworkcomputer they currently have some refurbished things up @Hunterrules0_o @frameworkcomputer I mean, even modern ThinkPads are still pretty good, somewhat upgradeable and nice to use. Nothing compared to Framework, but making a completely repairable modern laptop just comes with a price, I'd imagine @snep @frameworkcomputer I imagine its because theres a huge oversupply of old thinkpads that they can be sold so low. Most are given out by buisnesses. There still great machines @Hunterrules0_o @frameworkcomputer Oh definitely, that too. A couple generations old ThinkPads, Dell Latitudes and XPSs alongside HPs Elite- and ProBooks are all over the used market for very reasonable prices. A huge plus for second hand and tinkerer IT people! New businesses in general start with "premium" products and then later on expand their lineup with "budget" products. @AudraTran @frameworkcomputer's AMD laptop is not a premium product. Just an expensive paper weight. So they may already be on pace as you say @Hunterrules0_o @Hunterrules0_o wouldn't say cheap but have you checked on Slimbook? Or Vant? Although I'm not entirely sure they ship everywhere. @Hunterrules0_o @frameworkcomputer maybe add #fedihired . It'd help those who are looking spot the post. @darwinwoodka @frameworkcomputer it's not that we don't want to get promoted, it's that the only possible promotion is through the managerial ladder. If they had a longer ladder than junior/mid/senior X, for any X (developer, accountant, plumber), that runs dry after 5 years, then maybe we would be more content and have a(nother) reason to stay. @mdione @frameworkcomputer I've worked at places that had dual ladder technical programs, they're great. @frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org the alt text on this image isn't very good, the alt text doesn't actually say what dell's stance on remote work is @frameworkcomputer hopefully someday you'll have a position for a network admin or cyber security engineer, I'd love to apply! @paperdigits @frameworkcomputer for "Senior Product Manager, Marketplace" (the 1 with pay info, of only 3 positions listed) they show $140,000 - $185,000 a year, which is about what Google pays for someone with a degree and zero experience. @johnlogic @frameworkcomputer its not about if the salary is too little or fair, but being able to make that judgment before committing time and effort to applying. Some would be very happy with that range and others wouldn't. But being able to know before spending time on its good. @frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org who asked + get me a fresh bowl of mac and cheese herbert you aren't supposed to be on fedi at this hour @frameworkcomputer "Okay. I was going to stay home anyway. No need to sweeten the deal." @frameworkcomputer some managers need training on remote administration, but this is mostly a cultural issue that cannot be fixed without boardmember buyin. Good luck making them change / taking away their special building where they get to feel important all day. That official policy is unhinged. Maybe shareholders should take action against these crazy companies? Metrics consistently show wfh is efficient; these people are serving their egos, not shareholders/ customers @cykonot @frameworkcomputer The year that almost everyone at my office (I think finance, HR, facilities, and security had to come in) worked from home, productivity actually went up. Near the end, our department decided to allow teams to choose whether to be in office or remote permanently. Enough teams chose the latter that they rented the building out and moved those that chose to stay in office to another building @frameworkcomputer Boycott the shit out of those greedy deranged idiot bastards at dell! @frameworkcomputer this kind of behavior will be ruled as illegal in short time. Especially since a lot of remote / distributed workers are disabled. Why would you want to get promoted at a big corporation? They just put on salary and ask you to do unpaid overtime. @frameworkcomputer if you're shopping for a 3rd party security shop that can do architecture as well as security assessments, please do let me know! @frameworkcomputer Good thing there's no precedent in the tech industry for disgruntled workers leaving the company and then putting the old company out of business. @frameworkcomputer I would like to apply to the position of "heckling people to get a TrackPoint keyboard done already". I don't need a salary. :P I am aware of https://community.frame.work/t/thinkpad-keyboard-mod-super-early-stages/38484/58 yes (and I am a Patreon patron too for Scott for this). But still. @frameworkcomputer Your website literally says that the only engineering position available is exclusively on-site. @migmit @frameworkcomputer The job details says you will be manually testing devices, so that can't really be done from home @trebach @migmit @frameworkcomputer Sure, but still, the claim of being remote-first is kinda ridiculous. @frameworkcomputer doesn't look like i can do remote engineering work. Good for marketers and copywriters though. :( @frameworkcomputer |
@frameworkcomputer When will there be a cheap linux laptop. Linux users have gotten used to working on decade old thinkpads and dont need the newest intel processor + gpu. if there was a cheap framework laptop like those old thinkpads on amazon i would buy your entire stock no questions asked
