@frameworkcomputer When will there be a cheap linux laptop. Linux users have gotten used to working on decade old thinkpads and dont need the newest intel processor + gpu. if there was a cheap framework laptop like those old thinkpads on amazon i would buy your entire stock no questions asked

@Hunterrules0_o @frameworkcomputer well tbf, the laptop itself just is expensive. they're a startup and they just in general just have low margins.

They won't make old boards on purpose, but they have put up refurbished boards on their store at times

@thibaultmol @frameworkcomputer yeah its bad to reach for such high expectations. There are limits on stuff that companies cant control. /srs

@Hunterrules0_o @frameworkcomputer I mean, even modern ThinkPads are still pretty good, somewhat upgradeable and nice to use. Nothing compared to Framework, but making a completely repairable modern laptop just comes with a price, I'd imagine

@snep @frameworkcomputer I imagine its because theres a huge oversupply of old thinkpads that they can be sold so low. Most are given out by buisnesses. There still great machines

@Hunterrules0_o @frameworkcomputer Oh definitely, that too. A couple generations old ThinkPads, Dell Latitudes and XPSs alongside HPs Elite- and ProBooks are all over the used market for very reasonable prices. A huge plus for second hand and tinkerer IT people!

New businesses in general start with "premium" products and then later on expand their lineup with "budget" products.

@AudraTran @frameworkcomputer's AMD laptop is not a premium product. Just an expensive paper weight. So they may already be on pace as you say

@Hunterrules0_o
Considering the types of systems Framework produces, a low price model likely won't be happening any time soon. But there are refurbished devices and factory seconds you can buy from them for a lower price!

@Hunterrules0_o wouldn't say cheap but have you checked on Slimbook? Or Vant? Although I'm not entirely sure they ship everywhere.

@Hunterrules0_o
If you live somewhere in the EU, there is a somewhat cheap line of Linux laptops from Slimbook. They ship to other places too, but but the shipping prices can get high.
