There are a lot of Linux users on Fedi for the same reason you see a lot of vegans at local fruit stands or a lot of anarchists at Food Not Bombs. Federated social media and free desktops share a common political framework. @noracodes a while back someone sent me a screencap of a tweet like "where are all the permacomputing folks at?"(0 replies), like, yeah, not on twitter buddy "Effective immediately, we are enacting a general moderation strike on Stack Overflow and the Stack Exchange network." https://openletter.mousetail.nl/ Direct action gets the goods! Let's go!

@noracodes Strange things are going on. Might be my English, but I had to read several times before I understood what happened and what they complain about. It made sense afterwards, but I'm still wondering why SO would destroy their own platform?!

@noracodes yea, i don't run an instance anymore but when I did I had a pretty hard-and-fast "block any FAANG instances on sight" policy Eh, let them come. I, for one, look forward to (the option of) defederating our aged corporate overlords. Microsoft tried to make reverse-WINE, failed, gave up, and added some light affordances to a VM. This is hailed as an important innovation, while WINE is considered par for the course. It's a typical part of the proprietary/FOSS double standard. When a proprietary system doesn't interoperate with a FOSS system, it's the FOSS system's fault, and when a FOSS system interoperates with a proprietary system imperfectly... it's the FOSS system's fault. Similar problems are seen with LibreOffice and the open document standards. When LibreOffice handles DOCX incorrectly, it's "LibreOffice is broken," and when Word doesn't handle ODT correctly, it's "Why did you send me this broken LibreOffice document?" |
@noracodes love seeing these ifixit stickers :eyes_fast:
