Similar problems are seen with LibreOffice and the open document standards. When LibreOffice handles DOCX incorrectly, it's "LibreOffice is broken," and when Word doesn't handle ODT correctly, it's "Why did you send me this broken LibreOffice document?"

It's a remarkably similar frustration as I have with cis people who refuse to do even the most basic things to support trans folks. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely think that using minority tech platforms is analogous to - not the same as, mind you - some other types of oppression.

'course, that doesn't mean the fossbros are any more likely to be normal about other types of oppression, but still. It's interesting to think about.

@noracodes I don't want to be reply guy, but... you're saying that non-FOSS users blame users of the less-mainstream format for any problems (yup!), and this is similar to how FOSS users are tech bro terfs because ... reasons? I'm clearly missing a lot of the context up to this point, will go read up because obvs I'm missing something. :D

@tekhedd Not quite, but I see why it reads that way! I mean, as a trans person who uses a free desktop, I feel a similar kind of frustration at people who are mad about pronouns and people who are mad about FOSS. I would hope that this similarity would help people who are militant FOSS users understand the struggles of trans people and so forth, but it often doesn't.
