Not particularly technical friend had several drinks, changed their laptop password and set the password hint to "lol" so I'm dealing with that now. SO, if I was feeling old before... Wife: "You can't write the trivia answers because of your handwriting." Me: "What the fuck are you talking about my handwriting is great. It's neat, cursive with the occasional restrained flourish from a gorgeous pen filled with gorgeous ink." Wife: "and that's the problem. The folks running the trivia are in their twenties. They don't ever write by hand or read handwritten words. They read screens and printed pages. They can't read your answers."

Hey @geordie Fellow Old Fart here. My position is, as long as we continue to require them to read Shakespeare and understand Middle English, it is not unreasonable to also be forcing them to read (and, BTDub, write) cursive. And as long as I'm on this here soapbox, it wouldn't kill them to spend a few days in school with a slide rule. Woman asked me in an American accent if I knew where a specific restaurant is. Told her it was 250m or about 5 blocks down the road. “How far is that in traditional units?” I said “I dunno half a Fahrenheit?”

@geordie@aus.social Seems to be a funny movie from the synopsis on Wiki. Thank you for telling me that.

@geordie yes, it’s funny how the "binary thinking" crowd invariably end up adding criteria like hair length, voice registers, clothes etc. and basically make it a scale anyway. The moment you start talking about "real men don’t…" you have just created a new gender slightly different from "men". Everybody clap 👏 👏 👏 LBT: "IT support sandwich generation" stings. I'd never heard the term before but it's perfect. People older than me can't use computers because they're recalcitrant jerks who take actual offense at having to learn something that entered existence after 1980. People younger than me can't use computers, because tech companies abstracted all the actual using of computers away. My aunts can't use computers because they object to having to learn how to use them. My son's looks blankly at me when I tell him to share a file, because iPads don't *have* the concept of files. @geordie (Sub-Zero starts throwing white and blue flags, boxes of Salmiakki and bottles of Koskenkorva at Scorpion)
