@gamingonlinux
looks like the tree of a legacy git project I'm working on ๐Ÿ˜…

Too bad it's the kind of game that's really hard to defend purchasing. Buying it blind is very high risk because it's unlike anything anyone knows. And it's simple enough that most people will be able to get tired of playing from the demo alone.

That makes the group of people who have a gameplay reason to buy it very small. I suspect that most people who buy it do so to support the genre. Which is a great reason, sure, but usually not one that pays a lot of bills.

@gamingonlinux i love the idea of this game but fuck this is literally a full time job. I guess people who play truck simulators also would love this.

Universal Blue

@gamingonlinux thanks for taking a look at this! We hope that with the new installer coming in Fedora 40 that we can lower the barrier to entry further.

@gamingonlinux My earliest online gaming moments were on the pictured map - with my stupid high dialup ping and everything.

Low grav instagib shockrifles was my favourite game mode.

@gamingonlinux tbf it's still a good.looking game if you play the original but this is cool!

@gamingonlinux Good riddance to a company who force users to install rootkits on their own computers just to play the games.

kudu

@gamingonlinux does that mean we are not seeing hytale any time soon lol

@gamingonlinux Weird: It wonโ€™t finish starting up Jedi: Survivor if itโ€™s set as the default version of Proton (use 8.0-5 for all), but will start the game up & run it OK if Experimental remains the default (using 8.0-5 for J:S only). The game runs fine under Experimental (the latest build from--Americanized date--1/11/24, I believe) Maybe something minor changed in how Wine/the EA launcher interact?

@gamingonlinux assuming this is adopted across a lot of software; this sounds really good!

Michael

@gamingonlinux this is pretty cool because it will make a baseline that other portals can use to interact with proton right?

@gamingonlinux it's just Pokemon just not done by Nintendo and done correctly People have been waiting for a non Nintendo version for years that's great. I don't have it, but I watched a vid on it yesterday I think it's exactly what I want in a Pokemon game for sure.

DELETED

@gamingonlinux You might want to check out underrail on gog. It is a game about the end of the world where humanity is divided into underground metro station states and it runs natively on Linux.

@gamingonlinux Capcom has been doing this with all of their games lately. Theyโ€™re mad that someone accidentally showed a nude Chun Li mod during the Street Fighter 6 EVO stream last year.

DarkWing

@gamingonlinux extremely sad to see Capcom behaving this way.

Long time Monster Hunter fan, looking increasingly like I may not even consider purchasing Wilds.

Update - Valve have now fixed it in Proton Hotfix. Article updated.

Recently @lutris put up anti-cheat notices on game pages. Cool ๐Ÿ‘ but then also links right to a cheats website ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

This is not the way and actively harms how the project looks. I really hope they reconsider removing it.

Itโ€™s like linking directly to a pirate website for indie games. Oh but you donโ€™t support it you just link to it easily for people? Donโ€™t be stupid. See sense please.๐Ÿ™

Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

@lutris The statement on the pages with the cheat site link act more like a tantrum, than informing users. Just not a good look.

@gamingonlinux @lutris Linking to a pirate website for indie games hurts the indie game developers. Linking to a cheat website hurts the rootkit developers. I can see a difference.

@gamingonlinux @lutris no, because cheating in video games can be a legitimate way to play the game. free software means cheating resources should not be censored. it is the responsibility of the user to use those tools ethically, in contexts where it is explicitly allowed or at least does not harm anyone, or for the purpose of dealing damage to malicious projects (like pay-to-win servers). if anything, improve server-side anti-cheat measures and security (by means of improving the protocol and the verification of user inputs, not by ridiculous things like trying to verify that the client hasn't been modified), but censorship has never prevented unethical use of tools. It just makes them more inaccessible, thus creating an even larger power imbalance between cheaters and regular users.

@gamingonlinux So the tempest in a teapot is coming from tiktok? (Not surprising...)

Liam @ GamingOnLinux ๐Ÿง๐ŸŽฎ

Updated the video with a cut, and same for the article: Valve's notice on Deck Verified about it requiring an active internet connection is wrong.

@gamingonlinux Lot of hate for it on the discord. Good lord. I swear none of them have been paying attention to some of the more morally ambiguous tasks in video games of the past 20 years...
