@bruces isn’t this starting to sound more and more like Vernor Vinges “A Fire upon the Deep” ?

*I guess you could say "way to go China 2025 AD," except that China's alleged best friends are probably its worst enemies #geopolitics #BRICS

@bruces Another year and that will also be true for the USA.

@bruces Identifying cuisines by national borders seem especially artificial when you see them all listed this way.

I say this with the greatest respect to Greece, it is not the number 1. Also, Portugal is better than Spain.

@bruces I can't see any breach of article 5 of the GDPR....

Data is collected in a transparent manner, for specific, explicit and legitimate purpose, not further processed, limited to what is necessary, kept up to date, permits identification no longer than needed, processed so that security of personal data is guaranteed...

After all, all we know (no one has ever seen The List) the list contains "name => nice|naughty", it'S needed to fulfil their task ... 🤷 Sounds legit...

@bruces I've seen some people here doubting these signs are real. I can't say if they are, but they do look real enough. For contrast: here is an image of a sign in Labeaume in France (April 2023). Fifteen years ago, it was still mostly visible (and readable) and the pole was still partially visible. Now both sign and pole are barely visible, the sign is not readable, but you can still see where the tree grew around it.

@bruces I don't understand how to put this into my phone (my primary non-work computer) as a search engine. Anyone able to point towards a tutorial or link to a help page?

@bruces I'm surprised how much Meta was fined, compared to Google.
And Microsoft and Apple are not even on the list, they must be the Good guys :)

Irongut

@bruces I count that as over €2.5 billion in fines against Facebook / Meta and related companies which dwarfs Google's €150m by an order of magnitude! Another good reason I have never used a Zuck owned service and never will.

Gonzalo Nemmi :runbsd:

@bruces "And this, kids, is why the fines system doesn't work.

It is not there to protect your rights

It is there to indulge yourself in the belief that your rights are legally protected while, in reality, there's nothing more than yet another source of income for the state, to maintain the huge administrative framework it created to _deprive_ you from your actual rights in order to grant multinational corporations the benefit of exploiting them without ever giving you something in return."

@bruces To be more precise this should be adjusted for cost of living. Obviously salaries & rent being vastly higher in Switzerland the costs of anything that’s isn’t an iPad are higher than say Spain.

Anyways the main point is proven on 🇺🇸 : private healthcare will ruin you when you’re sick.

@bruces there are recent concerns that the high life expectancy in the Mediterranean is just a statistical error after a lot of people are scamming their government for pension.

Bas Schouten

@bruces One of the major problems here is the American left is consistently misidentifying the problems here.

The continued focus on things like M4A (whereas most of the countries doing much better here don't have single payer systems), allows the GOP and the pharma lobby to distract the situation and prevents the US from addressing the real problems.

Some of those real issues are very questionable patent laws about pharma and excessive diagnostic procedures. Not a lack of M4A.
