Airports are like… do you want to never run out of salt and pepper for the rest of your life?

@Gargron How kind of them!

Surely they aren't the kind of person to juxtapose staggeringly overpriced foods and souvenirs to smother the tourists with, alongside this marketing stunt... right? Right???

@Gargron i've reloded one of those many times

@Gargron All these ingredients are basic of kichen. Every one need that ingredients.

@Gargron I'm thoroughly enjoying it myself. It's so oddly satisfying to act out what I routinely yell at my cats for all the time.

@Gargron Eugen you are so busy nowadays 🙁

@Gargron In D&D terms I’d say it’s not impossible that they’ll pull this off but the skill check is pretty high

@gargron me! you teased me really well. I love: Ring7 and 4 and 2 and 8 and ...

Had no idea the hoops you need to go through on Google Play Store to install an 18+ rated app. Watching a friend struggle with age verification to install Telegram. Well, Mastodon is rated 18+ too. Would not be surprised if we lose a lot of potential users to this.

@Gargron I use the progressive web app and it works so well that I don’t even think about installing a native app. Maybe adding a tutorial for how to use mastodon as progressive web app when you aren’t able to install from store?

marius

@Gargron it might be time to release a version which has a filter for known naughty instances? Then it can be appropriate for all ages.

Sandro Linux

@Gargron In the UK, Mastodon is rated parental guidance.

@Gargron @Gargron Don’t think he’s a man who cares about money as much as trying to fix a seriously sick & corrupt Congress & Senate. Wouldn’t worry about him.

Lucky for #Mastodon, US Civil Code & Delaware Codes can’t make him buy #Twitter. Parag #Agrawal chose wrongly. Tried to Poison their buyer!!! Lied to get advertising. It’s bad. Big deal. Lessons to learn for young companies.

@gargron Now I kinda want to get in to The Dear Hunter. Sounds good!

@Gargron Hi, I'm Bozer. I currently work in Cambridge (UK) for Guerrilla Games (Sony) as an animator and before that was working at Jagex on their Transformers game aswell as some other bits of freelance work here and there. I've been in the industry just over 7 years and studied 3D, 2D animation and illustration at Teesside University before that.
Kindly contact me for your animation projects. I will deliver a masterpiece

Can recommend this article about why the trolley problem is not very useful:

Also this experiment shows how people would behave when put into such a situation in real life:

@Gargron idk what y'all talking abt with the 91 max killcount, I got 112 :)

Explaining Mastodon in a conversation is so much easier than doing it through text on a website. That has never gotten easier. In fact it's gotten harder because now you have to worry about not sounding like a cryptocurrency because the concept of "decentralization" has been co-opted...

@gargron It's social media, but anyone can provide it, just like email.

*pause*

Realize that the person you're talking to doesn't realize you can have email outside of Gmail.

zksmk

@Gargron Just use the email analogy. Everybody understands Gmail, Hotmail, john@doecompany.com being able to talk to each other, and the value of it not being a locked garden. Imagine we all had to sign up to services with a single email. Only difference: it's "publicly posted/viewable emails" and it's like Twitter.

@Gargron I say the following (whenever I try to do this exercise it only passes if my mother-in-law can repeat it to a friend):

It's an interlinked network of communities owned and operated by the communities they serve, with millions of members around the world.

I use as little techspeak as possible

I do not highlight the negatives of other platforms, 99% of the people being spoken to don't know or don't care.

I do not highlight similarities to email as I don't want to confuse the use case

Sometimes it feels like people just don't read past the headline. We're teaming up with a design agency to redesign the website, not to just change a color...

@Gargron will the mastodon software be getting a redesign in the future to?

Eugen Rochko

Disappointed to learn Cohost has been started by people from the fediverse. You know what the fediverse is but you learned the wrong lessons from it. Yes, I also think some servers are not operated professionally and blocks often get misused, but that is not a reason to replace a free and open system with a locked down one. I wrote on why decentralization matters back in 2018:
