It's actually fucked up that it's almost September and starting to get dark earlier. I feel like there were only a couple of weeks of summer since the last winter. And I remember the last September too well. At least then I got to be in Athens.

@Gargron I hate hot weather, so I look forward to September (and October!), but I do miss the daylight. It's a compensation, I guess. Although it has no meaning in 2020, I love baseball but hate Summer, love Autumn but hate football (the American kind). As my Scottish Grandmother used to say, "It's aye something." I read one Justice League comic in my life and I remember it was something about the Martians replacing air on Earth with something that doesn't allow open fire, and I can't find what it could've been online. Anyone know what storyline that was? @Gargron Terror Incognita (white martian) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Martian Alright, so I cut myself while peeling potatoes. Put a bandaid on not sure what else to do. Fingernail damaged.

@Gargron If you cut the nail to the skin under it the nail will grow out with the bloodspot and eventually the spot will dissipate.

If you run a regional Mastodon server, you can lock the language the interface appears in with the DEFAULT_LOCALE environment variable. @Gargron couldn't you use the #UNIX `LANG` and `LANGUAGE` #EnvironmentVariable which does the same thing rather than define a new variable specifically for the purpose? In my humble opinion, we should stick to as much of the #UNIXPhilosophy when developing for UNIX ( unless you plan on supporting Windows natively ). I've been working on improving the UX of joinmastodon.org with @pamdrouin and the changes are now live.

Good improvements, and nice to see it updated to show off the more recent main UI for Mastodon.... @Gargron Looks good. "We only list communities that are committed to active moderation against racism, sexism and transphobia." There used to be more criteria, like regular backups and multiple people with access to the computer, iirc. Are they dropped? (I cannot find the sign up page for communities any more.) There was a community I found interesting, but on their about page you mostly see toots from other communities. Would it be an idea to only show local toots? @Gargron @pamdrouin is there some way you could provide a lighter theme for it? Just for the documentation section at least, I can't look at this for an extended period. Light on dark themes aren't accessible for everyone.

@Gargron well, you can have a network topology that's essentially nodes attached to a hub, and those nodes might or might not act as hubs themselves. That's the typical network topology of the internet - although it was designed not to be like that: it's just how it's ended up because of commercial ISPs. @Gargron I don't think so no. A network is an obvious plurality, but can easily have a central coordinator (master) and consist of mostly satellite/slave units. An example could be a local network of time share terminals with all the logic in the central machine. Oh, I just realized the screenshot on joinmastodon.org hasn't been updated since the single-column UI became the default 😬

@Gargron it wasn't until I read your post that I realized I turned on single column as "an experiment" and it's still on months later and I love it. |
@Gargron seriously considering it, especially with samus playing!
@Gargron ARE YOU GAY OR WHAT???
