Please enjoy this kitten who was visiting us today (no, actually visiting, this one has a human already).

@scalzi "WHAT THE HELL'S THAT?"

Don't worry, kitten, that's just Scalzi. You get used to it after a while.

Chris Neklason

@scalzi
Wait. People bring kittens TO YOUR HOUSE???

Just passed 1,000 posts here on Mastodon. Hey, thank you all for being here and putting up with me occasionally. I have fun here, and appreciate that this service exists in the world.

@scalzi Love seeing you here AND BlueSky, don't forget about us Masto folks!

@scalzi Itโ€™s like Mastodon was made for the likes of you: a fun, wacky place in which velvet paintings of Wil Wheaton would be celebrated.

Smudge, unfairly denied the right to go outside in 2 degree (Fahrenheit, -16 Celsius) weather, looks reprovingly at those who would deny him his freedom

@scalzi
My parents had a couple of cats who *would* go out. They were longhaired, and Harry had a lot of undercoat.

@scalzi But he'd blame you if he got out and didn't like it! ๐Ÿ˜น

@scalzi Heโ€™s probably more used to the tropical volcanic island climate, so youโ€™re doing him a favor.

Scalzi

Congratulations, Mastodon, you've made it through another work week, have a cat picture, as a treat

@scalzi Thanks!

Mr. Pippinpaddleopsicopolis wishes you and yours an equally happy end of the week.

@scalzi I was sent this from my mum yesterday. Dotty informing mum she could not move just yet.

Scalzi

Smudge, getting into the holiday spirit.

Adriano

@scalzi I still don't know how your cat got to central Chile.

Scalzi

Stay calm, you're being judged from above. Make no sudden movements.

@scalzi

roman emperors had someone following behind them, whisper in their ears that they were just humans/men.

these days, we have cats to judge and remind us. ;)

@scalzi can't tell if you laid on the floor to get this joke or if the cat really is somewhere high

As ever, disregard what a company says publicly and focus on what the legal documents says you are agreeing to when you use their product.

@scalzi The phrase "value-added services" is enough to set off my BS detectors.

@scalzi one thing that I found interesting besides Zoomโ€™s AI stuff is that the ToS states anything you upload becomes theirs to do with as they please, so that means if you want to keep your IP for a image you want as a background, donโ€™t upload it.

Das

@scalzi The paragraph in the article says that says Zoom added the statement: "โ€œNotwithstanding the above, Zoom will not use audio, video or chat Customer Content to train our artificial intelligence models without your consent.โ€

I don't see that in the Zoom ToS.
explore.zoom.us/en/terms/

Also fwiw I got a note from my Univ legal dept that the terms that the Univ has with Zoom are different and supersede the online 'regular' ToS

Scalzi

Make no mistake, Smudge is *absolutely* plotting shenanigans

@scalzi Smudge might put on a nonchalant outward face, but you can see the machinations of destructions lighting up those casually half closed eyes... Also, awesome name for a cat. :)

@scalzi
Heโ€™s actually plotting how he will slay you in your sleep. He is, after all, a cat.
