And please spread the word, especially to folks who are perma-curious and non-nerd-identified. They are especially welcome.

Sometimes redemption is just a matter of growing a few potatoes.

A delivery bag with potato plants growing out of it. The bag has the text "Property of Amazon" written on it in 5 European languages in a large font.
The same potatoes from a higher angle. They seem to be growing happily in their subverted consumerist container.

I picked up a new (well, used but in great shape) overhead projector recently. This one is "portable" so it comes in a little suitcase and weighs like 6kg. Replacement bulbs are about 4€.

I like that it's technically simple and repairable and other than the bulbs, not much is likely to break soon. There is no dull prescriptive software suggesting that I make slides in any particular format. I can even do fun stuff like put two slides on top of each other or draw or write directly on them. I can make them digitally, analog or in whatever mix I like.

It's a cool format.

Any other #overhead heads out there in the Fediverse?

We went for a little walk in some interesting edge areas of the city today and discovered what seems to be an old orchard (Streuobst) on public land between a forest, a parking strip and a busy road. We found a few varieties of apples, pears, mirabelle plums, hazel nuts, sea buckthorn, whitebeam and a ton of blackberries. Most things weren't quite ripe but some heavy winds knocked down a lot of apples so we filled a bag with what we found on the ground. Currently busy making pie, chutney and apple sauce. #foraging

Unripe whitebeam berries and leaves.
Some beech nuts.

@praxeology can you eat the whitebeam? I saw some the other day but the internet said they were ornamental.

The Spruce is Loose!

We collected a bucket of spruce buds up north last weekend and I cooked them up to make syrup. It's really nice with some mild turpentine and citrus notes. I was surprised to discover it's very tasty in coffee.

Not sure if this is #woodworking but it is another amazing gift that #trees give us.

@praxeology oh, you have to cook them! I tried eating them raw, but they only tasted very tart 😅

@praxeology Looks lovely! I've always meant to try making this. We're surrounded by Spruce here so I reckon I might finally give it a go this weekend. Cheers for the reminder!
