Yesterday, Selenskyj gave a speech at the Bundestag and the far-right AfD and the weird new far-left-right-pro-Russia-something BSW left the plenary. Their sponsor Wlady would probably not have been happy otherwise. Today, the German Onion (Postillon) wrote that the democratic parties now decided to put up a Selenskyj stand-up display to get rid of the fascists for good: https://www.der-postillon.com/2024/06/pappaufsteller.html 🤣 @bastianallgeier So, the situation is tragic and intolerable. But that's an amazing take on it! Yes, let's do it! 😄 Sometimes marketing is all about waiting long enough for your audience to forget about the 80s and 90s. I love how ALDI celebrates this brilliant new design that saves 40% of plastic by removing the plastic lid.

@bastianallgeier they came up with this brand new thing: different diapers for boys and girls! I immediately thought "wow, I wonder how long it takes for them to sell us something radically new: unisex diapers!" @bastianallgeier Maybe not Aldi, but I know some supermarkets *will* mark up the price due to this remarkable feat of innovation. This is an article that took a lot of strength to write and I might take it down again. But I felt like it is an article that is very necessary right now. https://bastianallgeier.com/notes/grandpa

@bastianallgeier that's very powerful. Thanks for sharing. I've been very inspired by the protests across Germany today. @bastianallgeier The idea that strength power money and influence over other people were desirable goals is certainly despicable but it isn't definitive of Nazis. If that was your grandfather's only crime then he might as well have been a banker. But that's all we learn of his deeds. It's what your detachment was about. And where your anti-fascist feelings stem from — muddling them with a common personal conflict. You grew up and he wanted you to stay a kid. And that's why Nazis are bad? @bastianallgeier thank you for writing that. We must never forget and never normalize. This place is flawed in many ways, because human beings are flawed. The beauty of this place is that we are all shaping it together. All the discussions about social issues, defederation, UX issues, missing alt texts - even shitposts about Twitter and Bluesky - they are part of building and defining this together. There’s no company that makes the decisions. The discussions might be hard and annoying and not everyone wants to get involved, but we still earn 100% of the rewards together. Some people think Mastodon is too weird to become popular: I joined Twitter in 2008. We had to put a "d" in front of a tweet to convert it to a direct message and every other day you had some embarrassing private moments exposed because someone forgot about the “d”. Hashtags were just a community hack, introduced by Chris Messina to somehow tag content. Search? Hah, you wish! Tweets via SMS were supposed to be a thing. Oh, and the daily meet and greet with the failwhale. Totally not weird.
