How hot is it where you live in summer?
About 300
Celsius or Fahrenheit?
Kelvin!

When “philosopher” is considered too complex a word for young Americans. IDK it’s some kind of sorcery anyways, right?

James Conroy-Finn

@nikitonsky some user testing must have gone into this decision with a corporation like Disney behind it. I wonder how the whole conversation went.

@nikitonsky They are taught differently. They don’t learn to by syllables they learn to read whole words. That’s why they have problems to read long unusual words. This is based on my personal observation of my son’s learning and reading.

Another new project — storing DataScript in SQL database! Because writing files directly is a terrible idea github.com/tonsky/datascript-s

POV: you used text label as a key in list

New macOS app! In case you were as annoyed as me toggling light/dark mode through System Settings or Control Center github.com/tonsky/DarkModeTogg

@nikitonsky similarly Raycast also has commands for toggling dark/light OS themes raycast.com/extensions/system And it comes with an extra benefit that Raycast is great for other purposes too, just as an option

@nikitonsky, isn’t the hotkey much easier? (It’s ⌘F12 in my case)

@nikitonsky with scroll bar technology we can go even further!

@nikitonsky you need to unbalance those parens to drive your audience mad.

Pretty cool explanation why ClearType AA colors are not pure red/blue/green grc.com/cttech.htm

Niki Tonsky

Is there a map of Unicode? One that reasonably shows all sorts of regions, how big they are, etc on a single picture?

Dimitri

@nikitonsky check with the following twitter users, they know everything about Unicode:

1. Michael Everson twitter.com/Evertype
2. Fake Unicode twitter.com/FakeUnicode
3. Berd Kappenberg twitter.com/SpecialXaracter

Ever feel like you're wasting your life?

James Conroy-Finn

@nikitonsky makes me want to go outside and touch some grass.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never gotten angry at a tree.

@nikitonsky Just woke up and it’s first day of school for my son. So, I guess, it’s going great 😊

Can God create a stone he couldn’t destroy? I certainly can

Dmitry Fedotov

@nikitonsky no, you can't. But Windows certainly can :)

Kirill Osenkov

@nikitonsky restarting the computer should help. Is there a stray FileSystemWatcher watching this directory? Or a process that has this directory as current? I remember the symptoms, and remember restarting helped, but don’t remember what is going on.

Frederic Thevenet

@nikitonsky That's because God, being a seasoned Windows admin, knows that if he needs to overwrite ACLs placed by another admin (how blasphemous, I know) on an NTFS object he must first take ownership of that object.

He does so by right-clicking>Properties>Security>Advance and select "change" next to the item "owner". He is now Almighty, and may do as he pleases and set new ACLs on the object.

Please don't tell God I told you. 🙃

Declaring top 10% best-performing websites as fast, even if they are no fast by any absolute mean and certainly not fast enough for human perception... Bad idea that feels appropriate for our dark times :(

Niki Tonsky

Computers and networks are getting faster, human reaction time is staying the same, websites are getting slower. So instead of fixing or at least acknowledging it, they declare slow as the new normal? And claim it as “science” and “research-based”? blog.chromium.org/2020/05/the-

EvgenyNr

@nikitonsky but... These 2 seconds can become 10 seconds in next years. Would it be still "fast"? :)
