@liaizon there is this long standing project in Oaxaca that does/did this kind of infra setup with communities in the mountains there https://www.rhizomatica.org/what-we-do/   Anyone have recommendations for transliterating as opposed to translating? Lets say I have a string "hello, how are you" and I want to transliterate it it into the same sounds but a different script like Cyrillic or Arabic @liaizon I found this – seems to be the opposite of Romanization: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrillization @liaizon any speech to text app in the appropriate language would theoretically do this perhaps? wondering around #Marrakech today and came across this giant sphere of welded used bike tires in a park if flying your specific countries flag is nationalistic what is waving the EU flag? Unionistic? grabbing some water from a sink in a little restaurant in Morocco and the brand of sink is called Orca and I laughed to my self how silly our semantic drift is

 @liaizon It is the way the so-called free press underscores their so-called impartiality. 😝 @liaizon Quite normal to point to the fact that a word is new. You can find tons of examples for Metaverse also. a gigantic unsolved issues in social technologies is how to deal with many languages being canonical. a project that is developed by a community in one spoken language has a really huge hurdle to get community participation from those in another @liaizon this is not limited to social technologies. there's a reason we talk about "the anglophone <X>" or "the francophone <Y>". Countless cultural creations in one language that remain inaccessible and unknown in the others. Literature, film, & oddly even music & dance It's also reason why the legend of the Tower of Babel is so powerful: we know & understand that humans speaking different languages are (to some degree) isolated from each other, & cannot collaborate and coordinate as well just came across the tidbit that the person who made the Chinese fediverse app @tooot now works at Cloudflare a cool trick I started doing recently: I turned 🔔 here for all my other accounts on different parts of the fedi so if I post from lemmy the post is instantly on the top of my notifications in mastodon for easy boosting from my main account Every internet connection I have tried in Berlin has archive.today (.is, .li, .fo, .ph, .vn and .md) blocked. Does anyone know any details of why or how this happened? Is there a easy way around this other then a VPN here? both lemmy.ml and lemmy.world seem to be down right now. I wonder if the lemmyverse is under attack again? |
