So it turns out the falling out with my family was over a simple miscommunication, we're all good now!

I'm so happy, they are my rock and yeah it was all my fault.

Since the pandemic we've grown closer, it's awesome, my mom calls me almost every day just to talk 🥺

This is a great tool, and will be effective at mitigating bot signups. Most bots fill out the form with random information, often including an advertisement, and since the admin reviews new applicants first, it usually becomes obvious who is a bot and who is not before they are even approved to join.

@dansup @pixelfed I need to try pixelfed out a bit and see if it seem worth trying to get some of my more normie friends to at least try it. I have a few friends who now use Insta as their main social media, and I just cannot stand to use it, on so many levels.

Not the least of which is the years long bug where can't I scroll down without getting bumped back up. So much of the time literally cannot use it, except for the top like 2 pages worth of a given time.

I updated fedidb.org to return the proper latest software version

Next is finishing robots.txt parsing support so we honor instance admins privacy.

Be warned, this will drop stats across the board, I think it's better to respect admins and provide less accurate overall stats.

Omg bruh, I just looked over and realized how THICC mr tuk is.

You can see my dogs ribs, he's a healthy weight (like me 😎), but I swear the meows every time I try to put him on a diet always get to me.

Despite the clear warning that it's not reversible, people still ask.

Recycling usernames is something @pixelfed is investigating!

That's why you never delete accounts immediately. You deactivate them and only actually delete after e.g. 30 days.

While Autospam is highly accurate, it comes down to human intervention.

Sometimes admins can incorrectly assume an account is spam, and then delete the account.

This has happened to me with pixelfed.social, and too many times.

@pixelfed needs a mechanism for users to appeal this, and have the admin decided ability for their account to be un-deleted.

Requires consideration regarding federation, other than that, I think we should prioritize fixing this. Wdyt?

the mechanism could be:
admin does spam delete -> accound suspended and marked as delete pending (14 days?) -> user has option to still log on and write message to admin

@dansup @pixelfed I can only imagine the pure nightmare of detecting, and keeping track, of who's spam and who's not.

On that other Meta owned site it was, apart from the endless ads, a big factor in me leaving it. Spam spam and more spam relentlessly.

I believe anything yourself or the Fediverse can do to increase the battle is great.

It's tricky. But I guess an appeal system for presumed spam account deletion would be good. Also helps if people put face photos and good, relevant wording on profiles. Though that's a privacy concern for many nowadays due to the advance of AI and photo manipulation techniques
