Thanks to everyone who reached out, fediDB.org and fediverse.info will remain online going forward.
I'm not going anywhere either, though I think I need a break from the fediverse for a few days.

Fedidb.org and fediverse.info will be shut down in a month Edit: They will remain online and will not be shut down!

@dansup Dan, you’ve done amazing work with this and pixelfed, don’t throw it all away over some trolls and drama. Take a week off; hell, take a month or two. But clear your head and come back less angry and hurt. This will all still be here (yes, the good *and* the bad), ready to be made better.

@dansup Know that for every a**hole who dogpiled you because you don't meet their definition of ideological purity, there are 30 people who appreciate your selfless, volunteer efforts. I think Lemmy will not only overtake PeerTube, but also Misskey, and Kbin will surge to 200k users within the next month. #threadiverse

@Daniel Supernault does fedidb.org already offer the possibility to bet on fedi market share?
@dansup Hey! Wondering if you have considered removing the instances that are experiencing automated spam sign-ups. The data the graph is showing right now is not very useful to gauge the growth of the threadiverse. You can find some more info and a list of these instances here: https://lemm.ee/post/197715 The @threadcount bot uses the #fediDB API (without api keys or signup req'd) Pretty cool! https://github.com/taobojlen/threadcount/blob/main/src/threadcount.ts#L32 #threadiverse Visualize the Anti-Meta Fedi Pact via #fediDB! https://fedidb.org/current-events/anti-meta-fedi-pact Special thanks to @vantablack for organizing this!

Wondering if I should add a Anti-Meta Fedi Pact page to https://fedidb.org with a list of instances ordered by size.

Meta blocked #joinPixelfed a month ago (later was fixed, multiple ppl can confirm), I’ve tried to be understanding and respectful but why? I’ve never been contacted by them about p92 and never attended any meetings, do you honestly think I would work with meta????

Do you know if we have an official "position" from @Gargron on this "Meta joining the fediverse" thing? I notice mastodon.social has not yet signed that "we'll block Meta" pledge. Bluntly, if mastodon.social is supporting Meta in any way, I'll be pushing for a pledge to block them, too.

@dansup This is definitely for the far future but I think it would be super cool if there was a separate organization in charge of a common format for stories. Since TikTok/Snapchat/Instagram/Facebook/Twitter all have very similar stories mechanics, it would be awesome if there was a common format that could be used for everything from Pixelfed stories to Matrix groups. There could even be SDKs that would make it super easy for app devs to add story functionality to their Fediverse apps!

@dansup I tend to subscribe to the supposed 'standard' thing, like mastodon.social and pixelfed.social. There's no reason for this, I just like the simple name. I might go to kbin.social to keep the pattern :v Shared ModLists, a feature that allows you to create + curate block/mute lists of accounts, and share them with specific friends. If the list creator grants edit permissions, any friend can add a block/muted account and all friends will block/mute that account Coming soon to @pixelfed! #sharedModLists @dansup @pixelfed Are you addressing the notorious false positive problem that made block lists hated in many circles on Twitter? The case where anyone can slip any personal enemy into the list for random reasons, and end up cutting them off from thousands of their mutuals and never even alerting the victim to it? They just disappeared from their friends and associates with no awareness or recourse. It was very toxic. It's not often appreciated, but I have to say, how Mastodon internals work in terms of performance and scalability are top notch and sets the bar for other projects. It's not the language that matters, the database is the bottleneck, and more importantly how you manage the data schema and structures!

@dansup gotosocial performs far, far beyond mastodon. It mighn't *scale* as well, but it *performs* much better. This difference is very important. Mastodon might serve thousands of users well, it is the worst of all options for a selfhosted -one-man- server. And IMO fediverse software should optimize for small to tiny servers. Mastodon optimizes for big to huge servers. @dansup I see a lot of mastodon “alternatives” with a selling point of them being far less complex to set up and administer, with fewer “moving parts”. I’m guessing the trade off is that they don’t scale as well? I believe that https://fediDB.org is becoming a valuable resource to the fediverse, and it's grown beyond me and my project I'd like to steward it for another year, and then pass it on to a trustworthy organization, and allow it to evolve without my influence or bias towards Pixelfed! https://fediverse.info too, and the activitypub.social/io domains I own, I pledge these to the fediverse to be used for the good of humanity ❤️

@dansup Hello, I am a professional WordPress designer. I have been working in this sector for the last 4 years. If you need any kind of WordPress design be sure to let me know. I will do my best to satisfy you. I have big plans for https://fedidb.org, including re-launching the ActivityPub developer tools. I will need help though, and not with coding, we will need people to help curate everthing, input data about new projects (website, description, etc) and help detect potential spammy/fake instance stats. Is this something that you'd be interested in? @dansup That would be helpful as there are some spammy sites or test sites that make the list on #Fediverse tracking websites, & when you visit the instance they clearly state that the instance is a test site (so activity & accounts are fake). @dansup hey Dan! Yes, interested, can I help? I am a recently unemployed IT support pro looking for an excuse to find a new focus. I'm considering adding a "clients" category to https://fedidb.org that will list all known fediverse apps, and a compatibility matrix to be able to compare them. I started working on a "software comparison" feature that allows you to compare various features of X software, I will probably need the communities help to finish the feature database, I think it has a lot of potential. This also can be duplicated to list activitypub compatibility between projects, which is super exciting!

@dansup Oh that sounds awesome. It took me ages to find a client with the features I wanted and a nice UI. |
@dansup Just saw this... Thank you for everything you do!!!
@dansup let's reach out
@dansup Glad to hear it; you’re doing excellent work 💕
