If any of you could help make our son smile again on his birthday today, it'd be really appreciated, please. :boost_ok:
Kind wishes, boost or donations - if you want, and can - are welcome for items such as his own fronting clothes, but he'd rather have toys, Pokémon TCG, or a new videogame.
All the money received today will go towards Eden's birthday shopping this afternoon.
Last day asking for it. Thank you for any kind of support! ✨

There is no algorithm that brings posts to your timeline. The only posts you will see under your Home tab will be either people that you follow, or the boosts from people that you follow.
BOOSTING IS THE LIFE BLOOD OF MASTODON.
If you read something that is interesting, funny, thought provoking, news worthy, or beautiful, then BOOST IT.
Hitting "Favorite" lets the poster know that you liked it BUT IT DOESN'T LET ANYONE ELSE KNOW.
@Mrfunkedude after using twitter for many many years it took me a while to unlearn the algo driven feed. This is important and how I discover a lot of interesting / funny / thought provoking content. However, it does nothing to take you out of your bubble unless you seek out communities that hold different convictions / opinions than yours.
@Mrfunkedude@JugglingWithEggs Starring isn’t entirely invisible. I can see that ~175 people starred your post, and my client (Mona) lets me see who they are. I don’t immediately see a way to get from a user to that user’s starred posts; is that the ”not let[ting] anyone else know” you mean?
Actually hashtags are the lifeblood of the Fediverse. This isn't twitter. It's not a popularity contest. People curate their feed based on their interests, by subscribing to hashtags.
People who don't use hashtags and don't add alt text to images have missed the entire point of the Fediverse, which is information and conversation, not just pushing memes for engagement counts. If you want to succeed here you need to leave the twitter mentality behind.
In case you didn't know, there's a setting in your preferences to *not show* boosts of recent posts, and lots of people use it to avoid seeing the same articles and memes over and over all day.
If you want to build up your home page, subscribe to hashtags. That way you can follow people who talk about stuff you're actually interested in.
Also, boosting puts things on your *own* timeline that you don't necessarily want there. Likes / favorites are perfectly valid interactions.

(83/2500) URGENT HELP NEEDED TO AVOID REPO. 4 DAYS LEFT!!
Haven't had much traction on this, and I need to make this goal to keep a house of three trans people, well, housed.
If I lose my car, I lose my job (no other transport options to there). We probably lose housing, too. Two of us are physically disabled. This is a death sentence for them.
If I can pay this, regular payments resume ($151 every 2 weeks), on top of the ~$120 coming out of my paycheck every 2 weeks to my credit card (also severely overdue).
I can't afford to have a predatory loan stacked on top of that, and that's even if I'm eligible for one of them to begin with. So that's why I need help to pay this.
If people here want me to pay them back, I'll do that. Gladly. I have the list in my Paypal, after all, and you can request from me /contact me if you get sick of waiting for it back.

Tiny Mastodon Tip About Boosts :mastodon: :boost_ok:!
First, yes! You should absolutely boost the posts that you like on Mastodon! :neocat_heart:
Boosting (reposting) is a very important feature on Mastodon! Because there are no algorithm to push content in your timeline, it is what others post and repost that you see chronologically.
Boosting keeps Mastodon alive!
Do it! Boost it! :boost_ok: :blobcatrainbow:
That being said,
if you personally get annoyed by someone else's boosts, know that you have options:
1. Everyone should enable the "Group boosts in timelines" option. You can find it from the browser interface in "Preferences" > "Other" at the very top. This will hide new boosts for posts that have been recently boosted :ablobslurp:
2. You can hide all of someone's boosts without hiding their original posts. Go to the person's profile, select the 3-dot "Menu" button (in the browser interface, this will vary per mobile app), and select "Hide boosts from [handle]" :blobcatthinksmart:
3. You can mute someone's posts temporarily (boosts and originals). On the same "Menu", select "Mute [handle]" then "Show options." You can select between 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days 🤐
4. Know also that you are more likely to notice someone boosting a post repeatedly if you follow few people. Because there are no algorithm here, it is also a good idea to follow more people. Especially if you find your timeline too quiet :acongablob:
5. Don't forget to boost the posts that you like! :awesome:✨

You can still read the pre-release version on O'Reilly Learning Platform for free with a 10-day trial of the service. I don't know how much longer that deal is going to be around.
@evan congrats! Just a curiosity, is there a comparison with other protocols trying to create an interoperable web? I'm trying to understand why AT Protocol was created. I still need to read some references some people shared here.
