@rolle
> You own your data I guess that point is the most controversial point since all posts which are posted public cant be owned due to how fedi works

@rolle my "something else" is appreciation of the values and principles of fellow users, who either chose the Fediverse long ago, or are birdsite refugees who fled the hatefulness that the latter became.

@rolle My instance is community self governed and admined by a rainbow of very competent individuals.

Something else - a user is a user and not an instance admin or moderator because of personal choice.

@rolle generally a safer community with much stronger and more effective content moderation than any large company can fiscally attempt

@rolle Instagram & x: "Oh, you seem to post and react to posts about classic arcade games. Better force non-stop US right wing posts on your timelime. P.S: here's also porn bots liking your posts".

@rolle completely different culture, brought by the non-profit, decentralized nature. no fights and making fun of each other all the time. no constant trolling of company accounts. we are free to set much better standards in the community by defederating, and we do

@afreytes I thought about it, but didn’t want to have 20 option poll. So it’s ”somethin else”.

@rolle So I went over to the blue sky thing but hoo boy, it feels like the bird site, just not as much of the cliquey tunnel vision stuff but enough of it to make me come back here and wish more peole would.

@phi1997 It depends on what do you consider being good for you. A very subjective thing. But in general I think it as a healthier side.

@stupidjim My server has 15. We also have 10000 chars enabled among other features. https://help.mementomori.social/mementomori.social/instance-features

@rolle Something else: It's non american. (here in Europe we only have american corporate social media, not a single EU one)

@rolle The people are 500% nicer and there are some stunning photographers in this joint

@rolle Mastodon is the only place I've found so far that doesn't have massive tankie presence, they are not as plentiful or actively harmful as fascists but they ruin most spaces I'm interested in frequenting.
Astra :neofox_confused:
@rolle because the people on fedi aren't completely awful like on other sites. that's it, really

@rolle One of the reasons is the time I spend here. When using Instagram, I click on the discovery feature and the algorithm make me stay there for 2 hours straight. On the fediverse, I enter to read what's new. There's no algorithm to suggest me something I didn't see before, so by consequence I spend much less time here. tl;dr: Mastodon explore page is more ethical than Instagram's.

@rolle i made my own server and no matter what i won't wake up and find i was banned from here.

@rolle "No commercial algorithms" - more than that, no algorithms at all. If I follow somebody I see all their posts. 'Follow' is not just a friendly suggestion. (OK yes, technically "Show everything in reverse chronological order" is an algorithm. But you know what I mean.)

Surprised that "my instance can block entire other instances that are full of transphobes and Nazis" isn't on that list

@rolle Kind of covered by "not owned by a single company", but I also like some of the fractured community aspects that come with that. It sometimes leads to instance drama, but ultimately I think it's healthiest that my instance isn't obligated to interact with all the other instances. It makes moderation more effective and generally improves the experience for everyone. |
@rolle Honestly all of them...
