I’m struggling to deal with this version of the internet, where hosts are removing people for voluntarily nudity, but not removing nazis.

And a big part of that is because banks & credit card processing companies won’t allow nudity and sex stuff but are totally ok with hate speech.

From a risk perspective this is asinine - very few people have ever died as a result of naked tits, while we’re watching people be murdered in hate attacks daily.

Everything is fucked and backwards.

@krusynth but the children, or something.

Sex work is literally called the oldest profession, but we act shocked that people will buy and sell sex.

Bill Hunt

@bomkatt I mean it's not *even* sex! It's an image representation *of* sexuality! You can go to your local museum or library and get huge amounts of the stuff for free!

Bomkatt

@krusynth yet we’re having less trouble as a society finding a way for people to pay for their newly legal weed so the people gentrifying that can make a boatload….

bovaz

@krusynth @bomkatt doesn't some people frown on even that, wanting to cover statues and paintings?

@krusynth Russians (and their supporters) were (and still are) allowed to stay on social media and spread their propaganda while invading another country and massacring civilians.

That's when I realised. The current version of the internet would have given the original Nazis a platform during WW2 because "free speech".

It really is fucked. And very few people seem to care.

Francis Cook

@nick_tune @krusynth perhaps the Europeans want to regulate the hell out of the platforms because the US view of right and wrong is… wrong?

argv minus one

@dianshuo @nick_tune @krusynth

Most of Europe now has a fascist government, so no.

Kote Isaev

@krusynth Banning sexuality to make it yet another weapon if control and stigmatization to isolate people. Common tactic used by churches and all other conservative group under sauce of "morality".

@krusynth Somebody explained the sex stuff part a few days ago:

Credit card companies receive a lot of wrong fraud cases because a wife sees charges for porn websites and the husband says he got hacked and his credit card credentials stolen.

No credit card for porn means they save costs.

cwicseolfor

@Stefan_S_from_H @krusynth This tracks, and there's a strong society-wide conditioning to privilege men's access to consequence-free sexual gratification already at work ("sure the IP log matches, but you're not gonna break up a family, are you?") All this contortion, instead of just making sex not-shameful (because doing so would interfere with the levers available to existing powers. Dismantling any of those has intersectional impact.)

@krusynth Counterpoint: No oligarch ever made their fortune from naked tits, but most of them did from hate and violence.

Koos van den Hout

@krusynth it's about risks to the bank, not to society.

@krusynth

This s why we have the Fediverse run by people + clue and can apply common sense.

Michael Stanclift

@krusynth and like, who doesn't love looking at a good pair of tits?

aerique

@krusynth Since I couldn't retoot and favorite this post multiple times I've also bookmarked it.

Tim Bray

@krusynth One if the nice things about the #fediverse is no advertisers, so we have #nsfw and #Furry and so on, which Threads & equivalent never will.

Adam Piggott

@timbray And we can do things like post a photo of our elbow without it being censored, like on tumblr.

Woozle Hypertwin

@krusynth We do the opposite here, on TootCat and the rest of our corner of the social media fediverse. Commercial social media is always going to be enshittified.

It's where puritanism eventually leads because it is an extremist ideology that allows for violence and mistreatment of those who don't fit in to the average, which includes people who are free with their nudity. It's okay to be violent, to kill people, harm them, as long as it is THOSE people over there.

Chris Martin

@krusynth Women are murdered daily as well. Enough of the "tits" turns out to have been revenge porn, rape, etc. that I'd never host that content either.

Bernard Marx

@krusynth Hate is an emotional state like love. Expressing what you love or hate is your freedom unless you want to surrender that. You are somewhat expressing your hate for a bank here. If I choose to blow up the bank, isn't it my fault and not yours?

Sharing child porn and rape imagery directly exploits people. An organization can choose a broad brush approach to prevent such content because it is more efficient than employing people to analyze the details.

Declan

@krusynth it's odd to see that on the boiling planet people blame lust and nudity and not the oil companies and greed

Uair

@krusynth

It's just religion. Turn people against their sexuality and they become psychotically cruel and violent. Makes for good infantry.

Way of the world, my friend. Tits have to be suppressed /because/ they don't incite violence.

If everybody was sexually satisfied, who would fight in the wars?

SBird

@krusynth More sex, less nazis. It's very simple. 🤷‍♀️

@krusynth It all comes down to the banking industry trying to keep from running afoul of FOSTA-SESTA. Which, of course, were born out of the conservative agenda to control women, with the thin veil of curbing sex trafficking and child pornography as an excuse.

Of course, they're still ignoring the fact that these laws have made no measurable difference in curbing those things.

As a SWer off and on for almost two decades, the fact that controlling who sees my naughty parts, and what I do with them, is more important to these nut-sacks than protecting school children from gun violence, is just infuriating.

@krusynth in 1964 an entire neighborhood on the southwest side of Cleveland, Ohio was destroyed by a gigantic naked tit.
