Anyone know why or how Mastodon is generating tags below the images? Are they using object recognition for this?

Pixelfed post rendered on Mastodon with "#sunrise" below the photo

@dansup I thought it used the ones sent as category in the AP object?

dansup

@oblomov Oh I see it did contain the sunrise hashtag at one point but was edited, that explains how Mastodon got that.

I was mindblown for a sec thinking they implemented object detection.

Oblomov

@dansup interesting. You should possibly mention this to the developers (an edit may change the category contents). I'm more surprised by the lack of other tags, but I assume this is related? Or is Pixelfed not sending updated categories when hashtags change?

afaik it's hashtags that are included in the "tag" field of the AP object but aren't present in the text

I kind of recall someone saying something like — any hash-tags on the last line of a note would be moved below the images.

Or something like that.

I boosted it — maybe I can find it.

@dansup

Sure does not look like it paid any attention to the text above it image.

@dansup I have never seen something like this?

@dansup I just don't know why we need a second place to show hashtags, which are in the posts already.

@dansup at the moment it displays the tags field from the AP message, but removing the ones already in the post content.
This will change soon to include tags from the last line of the message as well, see github.com/mastodon/mastodon/p
