@aidapsibr @SylvieLorxu cost and difficulty is probably different in my country. and I'm severely ill, none of this is an option for me. but yeah, I hope some people can protect themselves through crowdfunding workarounds like this. though no one should have to. @obfusk @SylvieLorxu others mentioned publishing to fdroid if that's a possibility, even if it's limited reach. I'm sorry about your circumstances and yeah unfortunately I only know us routes. @aidapsibr thanks. and yeah, I hope more people realise how important alternatives like f-droid are. my apps are already on f-droid (would be weird otherwise, being an f-droid dev x3), but it still sucks to abandon my users. at least my own apps are niche, so there aren't that many. @SylvieLorxu having to abandon 70k catima users would be a lot worse (of course catima is also already on f-droid). @aidapsibr @SylvieLorxu it's not that big an issue for me personally, fortunately. and it's good to think of workarounds like that. I just want to make sure the most marginalised people affected aren't forgotten when people come up with those. |
@obfusk @SylvieLorxu I totally understand. The cost is lower than you may think, registered agent is ~40-60/yr, LLC formation is 200 once, PO box is 5/month which isn't insignificant, but far from only rich people have access that I hear often.
I'd put this in the crowd fundable category, id be happy to donate to a dev doing this to protect themselves.
I'm just saying the barrier is knowledge and time investment more than cash.
