It's always "you need to build up a tolerance to crop failures" and never "billionaires should build up a tolerance to not having yachts".

And, it's also, "let's body shame all the people with a little tolerance for crop failure". Instead of investing billions trying to prevent crop failures in the first place. "And, it's also, "let's body shame all the people with a little tolerance for crop failure". Instead of investing billions trying to prevent crop failures in the first place." F'g brilliant. @mattyroses favourite meme ive seen today so far @mattyroses @Rhodium103 yeah the French had the right idea when they had their little French Revolution... I think we need to bring that back in some form ;) @Rhodium103 'If you don't share your wealth, people will share their poverty with you - if you like it or not!' - Comment of a Somali Journalist on why piracy is rampant at the Coast of Somalia @Rhodium103 the amount of people I've known who live in "normally" hot places like Texas or Florida yet *can't* handle hot weather and have to do *everything* indoors with AC + sitting down or they're 2.5 seconds away from dying...this is ridiculous advice. s'not like most ppl can move to a better climate cuz there's no housing and the heat death is coming for us all regardless. @bluejorts @Rhodium103 Since I moved from upstate New York to Southern California, in the last two decades my body has become more tolerant of heat and less tolerant of cold. It is normally a dry heat in SoCal, which makes it easier to bear. The 95 F/35 C we have today is hot enough to not do anything strenuous but walking slowly is tolerable for me. @EricFielding @bluejorts @Rhodium103 The cliche “It’s a dry heat” comes to mind. I grew up in upstate NY. I’ve lived in hot, humid Florida for 23 years. I will never get used to it. @Rhodium103 #TeamOrcas is ‘helping’ billionaires develop ‘tolerance’ to not having yachts 🛥️! @ChemicalEyeGuy @Rhodium103 there's a major misunderstanding there. The boats the orcas are sinking are small sailing boats belonging to ordinary people. For the most part they're much cheaper than, say, a car. For some people they're their homes. @ChemicalEyeGuy @Rhodium103 it's a bit like if an elephant tramples a mud hut in Africa, and you say "good for the elephants, destroying the mansions of the billionaires!" @caesar @ChemicalEyeGuy @Rhodium103 I haven't read the Wapo article as I don't think a link was provided? But as far as I'm aware this thread isn't about Orcas ramming boats (or have I missed something?) @Annekin @ChemicalEyeGuy @Rhodium103 the OP wasn't about orcas, I was responding to a reply which brought them up based on a mistaken understanding of the topic. @caesar @ChemicalEyeGuy @Rhodium103 Ah. I didn't see that original comment. That would make sense. @caesar @Rhodium103 I haven’t heard of the #orcas attacking small boats. The few reported recently near #Scotland and #Gibraltar were yachts 🛥️, one of which was in a race of VERY expensive playthings of billionaires. 👉 https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/orca-rams-into-yacht-near-scotland-behavior-may-be-spreading-180982429/ In any case, the hashtag #TeamOrcas is for shitposting against #WealthInequality and #BigOil fueling the #ClimateCrisis. @ChemicalEyeGuy @Rhodium103 the type of yacht in that picture is worth maybe between €5k to €25k depending on condition and age. I realise not everyone in the world can afford that but it's far from billionaire category. I've lived a subsistence lifestyle aboard such a yacht (home built) my whole life. Most of the sailors I've met with yachts like that are _far_ below median income in their countries or even below the poverty line sometimes. It's unrelated to billionaires' obscene megayachts. @ChemicalEyeGuy @Rhodium103 on the racing yacht, you're right, that's a very different category. Still relatively small compared to billionaires' megayachts, but _very_ expensive. It's the only time I've heard of that, the rest have been small craft. @ChemicalEyeGuy @caesar @Rhodium103 orcas are playful and clever animals. They probably don't attack but want to play. Obviously, rich people are not playful. @pascale #Billionaires like to play with other people’s money - not to mention their lives. “Every billionaire is a policy failure.” - #AlexandriaOcasioCortez #AOC #TeamOrcas @Rhodium103 I like the Idea. I think we can try something similar and help billionaires build up a tolerance to guillotines. @Rhodium103 there a people falling an getting 3rd-degree burns. If this is the main stream discourse its stupid. @Rhodium103 I wonder if that's in some way related to having a tolerance of billionaires going to space in phallic rockets? @Rhodium103 @Rhodium103 💯 The overconsumption and waste culture needs to be radically addressed to halt the climate crisis @Rhodium103 this is disgusting, but unfortunately not new. Imagine my people being told we can be more resilient when our children drown constantly with fatal floods... We have a common enemy, now. @Rhodium103 It's not about fixing the problem but adaptation. Just adapt to your miserable planet. @Rhodium103 Using AC systems at outrageously low temperatures doesn't help either. You should not have your home/office at a temperature that is 15 degrees+ colder than the outside. You pretty much have a thermal shock when you go out. (Of course, this doesn't apply to cold temperatures outside because we do wear protective clothing when going out) @Rhodium103 There's not that many billionaires though. They can all have a stroke but it wouldn't change much of the current situation. @Rhodium103 I'm also constantly annoyed at long term solutions such as light colored shingles and better insulation. Like, wtf! The fixes are to stop spewing shit into the environment. Now @ATLeagle @Rhodium103 Why not both? And those are things that help *now*. Energy not used is energy not being generated by fossil fuels. The less energy being used, the more we can fulfil all our energy needs with renewables. I take it therefore you don't have a heater or an air conditioning unit? @ATLeagle @Rhodium103 with absolutely no consideration for the other non human occupants of this planet who require it to survive (producing fake trees springs to mind- good luck nesting in that if you're a bird) @Rhodium103 also this technique is basically bullshit above certain sustained hot temperatures. @Rhodium103 Great. Much like being poor, being subject to extreme heat is now a personal failing. @Rhodium103 They shall not be spared, those who misuse their own water and mistreat this planet. I think it's from Dune @Rhodium103 there's a physical limit... Go to 100ª C and, even if you aren't dead them... You explode like on a Mortal Kombat Fatality @Rhodium103 this snippet would fit very well in one of those opening montages in a post-apocalyptic movie. @Rhodium103 “Don’t ask what billionaires can do for you. Ask what you can do for billionaires!” @Rhodium103 @bastianallgeier can’t help but think of all the lobster who “built up a tolerance” to hotter and hotter water @DavidDarnes @Rhodium103 @bastianallgeier Where do you think the billionaires got their idea? @Rhodium103 Billionaire yachts may not be that great but even if they were all right this moment shot out into space all the way to the surface of the sun, their absense would do nothing to mitigate the planetary emergency. @InternetEh @Rhodium103 “do not, my friends, become addicted to chilling out” @Rhodium103 @alexwild i think it's well known that billionaires are less adaptable than the rest of us. very stuck in their bubbles. @Rhodium103 As someone who spent 30 summers in Miami, I call BS. It doesn't get easier or better. It is progressively unbearable. @Rhodium103 this is incredible. It’s literally telling the frogs to enjoy being boiled alive because it feels just like a jacuzzi until it doesn’t @Rhodium103 @lashman if this worked, I’d have built up a tolerance to idiotic writing like this @Rhodium103 @Rhodium103@mastodon.social At some point the conversation will have to shift to whether or not billionaires can develop a resistance to pitchforks and torches EVERYTHING IS FINE. PLEASE RETURN TO YOUR SEATS AND ADOPT THE BRACE POSITION. @Rhodium103 > "billionaires should build up a tolerance to There should be no billionaires. @Rhodium103 No amount of tolerance will save anyone from deadly heat. There's some physics which hard caps what we can handle. And they know that, but wish you wouldn't. They prefer you to blame heat deaths on laziness and weakness. Otherwise, you might start to get violent about things. @justafrog Wet bulb is an interesting situation more and more people will become familiar with. @Rhodium103 How do I train local flora and fauna to build this kind of endurance? I don't think they have access to the other great solution (and not part of the problem at all) to the climate crisis: air conditioning. ... Yes I guessed so. Thanks @washingtonpost for publishing this article, as useful as Astrology. @Rhodium103 i think humanity needs to push back and make the billionaires build up tolerance to decapitation. @Rhodium103 @regehr @Rhodium103 billionaires should build up a tolerance for bullets by getting shot with progressively larger bullets @Rhodium103
The headline reads like something Bezos might tell a packed Amazon warehouse on a hot august day. @Rhodium103 @Rhodium103 Unfortunately we're going to have to adapt regardless at this point. Damage has already been done, even if they stop now. We've been abandoned. It's up to us to survive now. @Rhodium103 I'm from Texas and can tell you this headline is BS. I am apparently more heat tolerant than my Appalachian friends. I haven't needed to use a/c all summer, but I am usually in my underwear when I'm home. @Rhodium103 Well, that really does tell us where their heads are at. It also tells me where I'd like their heads to be at. @Rhodium103 At this point it would be fine for me if they would've LESS yachts. If the limit per billionaire would be one, this would be a huge improvement already. @Rhodium103 This just makes me think of a frog slowly being boiled alive in a pot of water. FFS. What a monstrously banal headline. @Rhodium103 I don’t want them to build up tolerance. I want them to have sudden exposure therapy to not having yachts while in the middle of the Atlantic. No, it's billionaires get to lecture you on climate from their yachts for driving a diesel car, which they then tax to their government minions to buy bigger yachts.
The question is why we believe them @Rhodium103 We should really help those rich people build up their heat tolerance. Flamethrowers anyone? ;) @Rhodium103 what kind of horse hockey is this! Billionaires should build up a better tolerance towards deep dive experiments… |
@Rhodium103
seriously
ffffn wow.
The privileged need to build up a tolerance against guillotines.
