@thunderbird Canโ€™t wait, dreading which of my extensions will stop working though. Could be a deal breaker.

Matt

@thunderbird ooo, is that dark mode for e-mails themselves where possible? I sure hope it is!

Jason Pester

@mattswift @thunderbird In the beta, you can change the font color and background color of the message pain - 'works great for plain text email, but HTML email respects its own color info

Bjornsdottirs

@thunderbird Know that this will be renowned as a regression in usability.

@ellenor2000 @thunderbird It might cause some headaches for some people (there definitely will be some very angry loud (minority)), but as far as I know, the most controversal UI changes (density, unified folders etc.) can be reverted in settings, because the Thunderbird team actually listens to user feedback (unlike some big companies).

@ymstnt @ellenor2000 Indeed. in fact, we're not even defaulting to the view you see in these screenshots. So it should still feel very comfortable to people who are used to the existing layouts.

@thunderbird @ymstnt @ellenor2000 Ah this is so great to hear! I will definitely try out all the new layout options, because it looks great! And if the density doesn't work for me, then I'll use the existing layout. Thanks for being considerate Thunderbird team!

@ellenor2000 @thunderbird we'll have to wait until the release to see that, but from what i've read on their blog, almost all of the changes they have introduced will be revertable

and personally, i like the more modern message list, bc the traditional one doesn't work as well if your window is not wide enough, all the from/subject/etc. columns get too narrow and get abbreviated

@thunderbird great so early. I'm excited from the beta test already. The new design is nice and much cleaner ๐Ÿ‘

Der Motzmichel :mastodon:

@thunderbird Oh, this looks nice. I may give it a try again. Hopefully the usability got improved too. In my humble opinion #thunderbird is/was way too messed up/complicated to deal with. Email should be as simple as possible nowadays ... :-)

Chick Enheart

@Motzmichel @thunderbird I'm sorry, but complicated ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ?! In which way ?

Rรฉmi Duprรฉ

@thunderbird I can't wait to test it!

It will certainly take some time to get used to after all this time, but it is awesome to see a Thunderbird that fits the 2020's ๐Ÿ˜

@remidupre The best thing is, you can still use the traditional wide view and "table" layout you're used to, if you want!

Benjamin Richardson

@thunderbird Congratulations! Looking forward to giving it a try.

@dan_tran_van @fdroidorg We're aiming for Q4 to have Thunderbird for Android released -- and yep, it'll be on F-Droid.

@thunderbird congrats! Have you considered JMAP support in future? Thereโ€™s some solid rust code out there already github.com/stalwartlabs/jmap-c for example

YMSTNT

@thunderbird Looks fabolous, Monday couldn't come sooner (though I wouldn't skip the weekend, I need some rest :bloblaugh: ).

Looks like the e-mail dark mode is built in now? Is this correct? Does that mean I can finally ditch Dark Reader?

Joshua

@thunderbird
It's my birthday, so thx for this gift. I am very excited about what I have been able to see so far. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Ivan

@thunderbird can't wait for this update ๐Ÿ‘€

abhijith
@thunderbird You have got me oscillating between "That's not my Thunderbird๐Ÿ˜ก" and "Aww.. that is so pretty". What sorcery is this?๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ
DELETED

@thunderbird Ooh, like official, stable release! Is that with the new icon too?

Mehrad :kde: :emacs: :rstats:

@thunderbird well done, it really looks modern and good. I hope it hit the Linux repos (Arch btw) a.s.a.p .

carrabelloy

@thunderbird ich bleibe bei dark. Das weiรŸ, bekomme ich Augenkrebs. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fabian Dellwing

@thunderbird TbSync and Conversations are not yet compatible. So it's a hard pass for now.

sydnoise

@thunderbird can't wait to see which extensions will stop working - since that wouldn't be something I mind as I am just so thankful for all the refactoring that needed to happen to make this possible ๐Ÿฅฐ

Dominic.tech

@thunderbird
Wow. It was about time to have a beautiful modern UI on this legendary software!

benedolt

@thunderbird Oh, it looks so good - can't wait to get the update. :) Thanks for all the hard work!!!

Jason Pester

@thunderbird Great job so far! ๐Ÿ‘ I've been using the Supernova interface since Thunderbird 112 beta - it's gotten more refined up through 115 beta and works quite well. I've been using it as my primary email client without any major issues โœŒ ๐Ÿ˜

kapsiR

@thunderbird Looking forward to try it out...

Updates for stable channel on Monday too?

Kirsty

@thunderbird
Beauty in an email app is never on my criteria list. I start and end with #security and #functionality ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

Mikkel Roald-Arbรธl

@thunderbird Having been on the beta for a while, I can only say that the new layout is absolutely amazing! Congrats on the launch!๐Ÿฅณ

Veedems

@thunderbird any plans for an iOS client anywhere down the road?

Brayd

@thunderbird@mastodon.online would love to be able to use it with Microsoft Exchange accounts but they don't work with Thunderbird without paying 10โ‚ฌ per year or so for Owl

Sorting

@thunderbird looks amazing, can' wait :blobcatheart:

DELETED

@thunderbird I hope that the rework includes the settings UI, especially managing e-mail accounts, because that is currently a lot of pain.

justforfun

@thunderbird
Waiting for this release to finally get my mom to start using a mail client. Want something we both use so I can walk her through stuff. Thanks to all the devs and contributors for all the hard work!

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บGrey08 ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

@thunderbird Please tell me i can switch that to the old layout o.o
That's horrible big and a waste of space and way to many colors o.o

Erik Chendo Tegon

@thunderbird i will test this new version on my second notebook.

Kalzi

@thunderbird Any chance of a system tray icon for notifications when the client is closed? This is the only reason why I don't use thunderbird.

gaboo

@thunderbird i hope unified folders can be disabled. Othewise looks nice.

Andreas Schantl

@thunderbird Time to give Apple Mail a pass. Hoping the new list view will get some more polish to look like in the early mockups. Have been using the beta for private mails for quite some time and looking forward to the stable release ๐Ÿ˜

arkhi

@thunderbird And weโ€™re quite excited. The wait is hard! :)

Marco Marchi :verified:

@thunderbird at last! Ready to start with new Thunderbird! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช

Cuban's Bullspit

@thunderbird never thought I would look forward to a Monday!

Ahmad ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ

@thunderbird God damn!! Thought this day was never coming.

Thanks Mozilla๐Ÿ’—

Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox

@Breznsoiza macOS definitely. Our mobile version for iOS will begin development this year, and hopefully we'll have more to share with you early in 2024.

Stefan Scholl

@thunderbird I'm prepared to hate it for about a week (maybe less) and then don't want to ever go back.

omg! ubuntu

@thunderbird Oooh! Is there a beta version I can try earlier?

:heart_nb: Nyaa :heart_pan:
@thunderbird It looks so good, really excited for this! :cirno_flap:
theo

@thunderbird does it have conversation view instead of message-by-message?

Evv1L :blobcatlaptop:

@thunderbird can Thunderbird desktop receive and notify about new emails in the background when the window is closed?

(I mean minimized in tray smh like KDE has)
