A year later, and I'm still not sure if I picked the best logo 😅

@dansup tbh the distinct/identifiable part is the chat-bubble-P the colors and surrounding shapes are just stylistic choices. mentally i associate pixelfed with that p-bubble. you could put that on anything and it's recognizable as "pixelfed" -- on a photograph, on a camera, on a swirl, on a circle, on a grid of pixels, whatever @dansup maybe it would be worth implementing alternative icon options in the iOS app so that users could pick the one they like best. 🤔 @dansup The top and bottom rows might be useful for fancy animations (I'm thinking fade/spin from one of the top row ones to the current one), circumstantial marketing, or extensions/plugins (the first one on the bottom row reminds me of Firefox) @dansup Those in the last row look like Firefox. But the first row is actually amazing. @dansup several apps let users select which icon they want to use on their phone.. why not give Pixelfed users the same option? @dansup The logo is the shape of the P, the rest (colors and gradients) is accessory. it can even be a choice for users in the settings of the app! @dansup 3rd row, last one on the right is the one that for me connects best with what it represents, which I think should be the point of a logo? @dansup I like all of these! My favourites are the second last ones (is this how you say "vorletzte" in English?) from lines 3 and 4 @dansup You did. The color palette gives people a hint what to expect, while the circular nature means the image isn’t getting cut off when used in spots that get trimmed to that. It’s simple, but effective. The others could have worked, and some probably just as well or close enough, but this one clearly isn’t the wrong choice, and that, combined with what I’ve said above, makes it the right one. 😄 |
@dansup 3rd row last one on the right side. Caught my eye first and the colors are blended enough that from a distance they form a nice gradient. Would also translate to font awesome pretty good too.
