⚡ Post Comment Permissions

Pixelfed pioneered the ability to disable comments per post, and delete remote comments.

We can do better, and we are!

Soon you will be able to limit post comments to various segments like:

- Only accounts I follow
- Only mutual follows
- Only local accounts
- Only X accounts

and more!

One more thing, we're publishing a standard for this so other implementations can support this too! #pixelfed #postCommentPermissions

@pixelfed So, good-bye to reply-guys. 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽

@acousticmirror @pixelfed I *really* wish Mastodon had the ability to disable replies on posts. :\

@mdm Yeah, we have amazing granularity here in terms of scope and visibility, but no way to control the reply issue. @pixelfed

@pixelfed oh this is amazing. I want this in every single piece of fedi software!

@pixelfed this is good but also brings with it an immense new UX UI challenge and many more layers of federation challenges. An example: when a post is listed as "only mutual comments" and then one side stops following, then what happens to the comment etc

acb

@pixelfed Any chance of having posts which are only visible to mutual follows? (Or even better, LiveJournal/Google Circles-style lists)

@acb @pixelfed

A Mutual's scope would be oh so very nice!

robryk

@pixelfed do you already have a description of how this looks like from the pov of the activitystreams layer? In particular, is like to understand if/how other instances get to know the original post's author's wishes, so that they can apply them to comments they've received directly.

LisPi

@pixelfed So... are those permissions purely local or is there federation of approved vs disapproved posts?

Is there a toggle to see removed posts?

Linebyline

@pixelfed Maybe I'm just not sufficiently Feducated (that's a word now, I said so) and I'm missing something obvious/well-known, but:

What does "X" refer to in "Only X accounts"?

@pixelfed i think pioneered is a bit of an overstatement here. Hubzilla has had comment permissions since more than a decade now :wink:
dansup

@mario @pixelfed oh I meant on Activitypub, I wouldn’t be surprised if hubzilla did it first on AP too, it’s a really cool and innovative project!

piegames

@pixelfed what does "mutual follows" mean exactly? Also, will there be a "only followers can reply"? This would work well with locked accounts

@pixelfed can we have "per-instance" comments?

if you're on instance X, you only see comments from instance X, and so on.

The ability to disable comments on each post and delete comments remotely are useful features that help Pixelfed users control the content they share and interact with others. aarouteplanner.io
