Wow, the #threadiverse growth is still going strong!
Lemmy should overtake @pixelfed in terms of total users over the next 24 hours! Great job reddit 🚀

@dansup @pixelfed I'm not surprised because the Reddit CEO keeps digigng a deeper hole. I myself deleted my account and opened a Lemmy account on the @lemmyworld server and it's fantastic. All we need now is a decent Lemmy app for Android. The official app is very buggy and quits all the time. For now I'm using the web app and it's not bad. We really need to encourage all devs to ho on board and help the people over at Lemmy to scale with this growth otherwise it might fail. @danielfgom @dansup @pixelfed @lemmyworld It is still in alpha, so not surprising and it is getting better at and extraordinary pace since the reddit migration. Also I wouldn't call it the "official" app. It's a side project by one of the devs. @Geniusak @dansup @pixelfed @lemmyworld For an alpha build it's really good! Posts take a while to post but eventually do. Overall it's fairly snappy and works as you want it to, on the web. Perhaps some app Devs can find some free time to chip in and help with the app and rename it to Lemmy as the official app. As the site grows people will expect an app. But it's off to a great start! @danielfgom I am loving that more are being introduced to the fediverse. It would be irresponsible though to not point out that the majority of users are migrating to the top instances. Migration to all the same instance(s) is missing the forest for the trees to borrow the metaphor. @olenglishD True. People go to where other people are, like sheep. No one wants to sit there all alone after having just left a very busy/popular service (twitter/Reddit etc). Perhaps with time they could be persuaded to move instances, although I don't see why they would want to if they are settled in theirs. There will be a need for funding the bigger ones to act as the central hub in a way. Maybe various communities could agree to move to other servers to lighten the load? @olenglishD For example, on Lemmy there are Communities which are essentially sub-reddits. Maybe the mods could move them to other smaller servers when they get very large and encourage subscribers to do the same. The functionality could be added to Activity Pub or whatever to do it in bulk by the admins. We'll need discussion around this problem and lots of ideas. |
@pixelfed @dansup Holy cow. I hope this is ultimately good for the Fediverse!
