I think many of us, especially the #TwitterMigration waves of the past several months, definitely do want it to be a place for news. We're just not willing to go to Twitter to do so.

I think it important for all of us to continue to cajole, press & push the people & organizations we used to follow & engage with on Twitter to at bare minimum set up shop here if nothing else as a strategic hedge against Twitter crashing & burning.

@jeffjarvis I appreciate that search has benefits, but within moments of the news breaking, my feed was almost nothing but posts about Tucker Carlson, with lots of other people responding to those posts. So, there was no lack of "what people are saying". It may not be the people that you specifically wanted to hear from on this issue, but if you and more of those others spent the past few hours here, posting and responding, rather than there, this place could be a little closer to your desires.

@jeffjarvis You can search here... You can search for hashtags (so just search for #Tucker or whatever)... You also have pretty much any of the fediverse search engines you can use which will index free-text (which most servers dont do, but thats a mastodon limitation only).

But If youʼre trying to sell search on the public utility angle, youʼre going to have to do better than your inability to find the latest gossip about celebrity journalists. Whether Tucker or Don made a billion dollars today or died in a Hindenburg-type disaster is of very little actual consequence to literally anyone.
