 Someone asked, “Why should anyone want to make a living from the Fediverse?” Because certain people have the skills to keep it running, and others are willing to pay to keep it running. So why not give the people with skills the means to feed, clothe, and shelter themselves—while they keep the Fediverse running? 12 comments
 Ha. Counselling is emotional labour. Yes. Emotional labour is labour. Yes. Labour should be paid for. Yes. Therefore counsellors should be paid. No omg what's wrong with you, don't you care about people, do you only care when you're paid to? Etc etc etc Moderation and facilitation is very much emotional labour.  @atomicpoet that’s what I’m saying. Content creator or even influence seems to be a well known and arguably well trodden path. It’d be nice if “facilitator” became as obvious a choice. @atomicpoet I think some people see the fediverse as some perfect anti-capitalist paradise. Which let's be honest is never going to happen. But it can still be better than #Twitter or whatever even without that perfect ideal existing. Maybe it's just that I'm cynical and approaching middle age though 😅 @lemonflavoured Commerce is not the same as capitalism. There's nothing wrong with making a living. @atomicpoet in not sure why someone would ask. Seems a remarkably stupid question from a #Fedizen who are usually far more intelligent than someone from Facebook or Twatter.  @atomicpoet I've moved "house" several times. It was ridiculous. Now I just pay @mastohost to maintain my masto home. 🏠🐘 In the meantime, maybe instances can have an extra 'pot' for donations meant for beyond your instance. Money intended for your admin to donate, to support the things/people that support their work. |

I think it would be a wonderful turn of events if instead of making a living as an online content creator you could make a living as a content “facilitator” governing and taking care of social spaces and infrastructure.
Where I would suspect such a function would have plenty of economic value too should people be willing to recognise and embrace it.
