I cannot overstate how convenient Apple Pay is. I didn’t have a single CHF on me the whole trip. I didn’t even need to carry my wallet around.

@Gargron don’t get lured by the whole “convenience” thing. Don’t get me wrong. Just saying…

@Gargron Have you unbanned rintranke yet or looked into their case?

@Gargron I remember using NFC on my Samsung back in 2016 or so and everyone looked weird at me here in Spain, paying with it. Still use it since. Now many are using it. One time they called for their employees to see me pay with the phone and were amazed hahaha.

I mean yah is convenient that you do not have to carry a card, but it is annoying the level of fuckery that goes behind these paying methods with their "apps" that give you rewards, track your purchases, and more. Maybe Apple does not do it yet, but will.

Though you aren't getting the best exchange rate when paying with a card with different currency.

@Gargron
Don't your own bank offer NFC payments without Apple/others looking up your payments?

@Gargron just remember if that service ever gets hacked it might as well be the equivalent of giving your credit card to a stranger

@Gargron that's a shame because the 5 CHF is an a-tier coin. a real dubloon

@Gargron I'm happy for you but also having a hard time understanding why carrying a wallet is inconvenient.

My wallet works when my phone is dead, broken or lost. It helps people identify me if I'm in distress and cannot speak, it carries cash which is usually acceptable everywhere.

It only takes up 3 by 2 by .5 inches in my front pocket as it is minimal in size and I don't carry 800 club cards

inference

@Gargron It's never a good thing to rely on a single method of payment. Cash should always be carried as a backup, whether because you lost your digital wallet, or because a corrupt government declines your payments.
