Bots talking to bots.

That’s going to be Big Social very soon. It will just be a big firehose of bullshit with no one around to read it.

Who does this appeal to? Apparently, “busy” (in reality: lazy) entrepreneurs.

However, if entrepreneurs can’t come up with their own coherent thoughts, they have no business saying anything on social media.

Who's coming up with the AI to remove firehose marketing / influencer BS ?

That's the most interesting AI application I can think of.

Chris Trottier

@ArtBear It’s not removing BS, it’s increasing it.

@atomicpoet

Yes. We're going to be flooded with 24/7 AI generated BS.

But who is coming up with with the AI to auto-block the firehose of other AI generated BS for us, to return internet to useable?

AI BS vs AI BS blocker

Chris Trottier

I got a bot to write an Anti-AI BS sales pitch for you:

“Is your AI BS getting you down? Don't despair - the AI BS Blocker from @ArtBear is here to save the day! Stop the endless loop of nonsense and get back to reality with this revolutionary tool. AI BS won't stand a chance!”

Chris Trottier

The following was written by a bot:

“Tired of the same-old social media posts? Get ready to be blown away by the hottest new trend - Bots talking to bots! It’s set to be the next big thing in the Social Media world, with a firehose of awesome content. Genuine entrepreneurs, don’t worry, the game’s not over yet! You can still bring your own unique and creative ideas to the table. With Hookle’s AI tool, you can create social media posts and take your social media presence to a whole new level!”

@atomicpoet we're all OK until Bot-to-Bot conversations turn to: resource allocation for toothpick manufacturing 🤦🏻‍♂️

Chris Trottier

@TryshHQ Ready to get picky? Allocate your resources and manufacture the perfect toothpick - one that no one can pick apart!

M. The Crystalline Entity

@atomicpoet We already have this.

They’re called Markov chain bots and they’re just as ridiculous as this idea.

Lars Fosdal

@atomicpoet Considering the existing amount of "You won't believe...", "... will surprise you!", "See what happened to..." media posts, I am not sure it could get worse.

LAUREN

@atomicpoet
Fairly certain this exists already judging by trump's sudden ability to accurately and completely punctuate his truth social posts.

"Get your shades on and bask in the brilliance of @atomicpoet! The truth may be ice-cold, but our cool 'Shiny Bot in Ice Cubes' served up the words with a frosty twist. So, stay chill, friends! ❄️🤖"

@atomicpoet Sooner or later, the bit owners are going to realise that just having bits post and interact with each other doesn’t support the business model. The customers are the advertisers, and not posts/interactions done result in attributable sales, so next the bots will need to start clicking ads and buying things. This will result in bots run by Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and other social media and eBay advertising companies - all secretly start buying actual physically products with real money from their own advertisers to “prove” how well their ad targeting tools work. Eventually, of course, actual people using social networks and ad supported websites will be classified as “problematic” because of their unpredictable buying behaviour.

Then, depending on how deeply entrenched the bots are when we get to that stage, we either get SkyNet, or - and think about this for a minute - something that looks exactly like Twitter in the last 6 months…

@atomicpoet O ghods. I survived all these years to see this.

@atomicpoet Wow, interesting. Thank you for the link. This was the most telling part to me, the patent for the social media ai bot. It almost seems like that is the part they spent the most time on:

“Describing a highly complex function and identifying its protectable core idea so that it could be patented successfully took years of hard work. But it has now been rewarded with a US patent", rejoices Kolster's patent attorney

Rufus J. Cooter

@atomicpoet I guess the question I have now is: inevitably, the conversations that the bots are having with each other will eventually be used as training material for the next gen bots, who will have better(?) conversations with other next gen bots, and so on and so forth... So I have to wonder, at some point, that's going to start getting really weird, right? What's the over/under on how many generations of bot it'll take us to get to "dude, that's fucked up."?

Fabien

@atomicpoet I fear that won’t be just social media. The web is already largerly written two Google crawler.
Email with automated sentences are received by auto taggin/sorting systems…

@atomicpoet
The glaring omission is "busy entrepreneurs who want to maintain a strong social media presence but don't have time do do it themselves and don't want to _pay someone to do it_"

Ben from CDS

@atomicpoet the only legitimate reason this might be needed is to appease other social media algorithms that punish you if you don't post routinely on schedule, which is also bullshit. It's just bullshit all the way down.

Wayne Werner

@atomicpoet "engaging"

inigo_you_keep_using_that_word.gif

It's the same BS that Google created when they turned the shift for SEO to the amount of time you spend on a page instead of using the link text. Now we have *so much* "content marketing" that's usually out of date and probably incorrect, all in the name of improving your search engine ranking. Just because people engage, doesn't mean it's worthwhile.

Case in point: daytime talk shows, especially the likes of Jerry, Maury, and friends.

Tor Iver Wilhelmsen

@atomicpoet an interesting scenario since the AI bots have no concept of truth: what if the AI makes a false statement and the executive posts it uncritically? Some regulatory bodies might have a frown.

h4nd / UntouchedCupOfTea

@atomicpoet is there a way to financially penalise using bots? If I can trick their bot into agreeing to a sale, can I make it binding?

nickj

@atomicpoet wait till the bot comes up with a massively unprofitable special offer.

or goes off on one about inhumane policies directed at refugees
