@atomicpoet I sincerely hope that most new users will go on to form smaller servers with friends, family, community, etc., once they've figured out how things work. These large-scale instances are the biggest risk to the Fedi imo.
News media, nonprofits, and govt entities can help encourage this by starting their own instance - show people the possibilities.
Disagree with the general statement. As so often in life, it's about integrity. I run a server which currently hosts 35.000+ people. I won't ever sell. People should get into the habit of reading the About pages of their servers. That allows them to judge and project. Mine is at https://home.social/about.
