@davidrevoy The sketch in itself is already so good, that could be a finished one by itself (as different art style). ๐Ÿค”

@davidrevoy Very pretty! Reminds me (a bit) of Saber in Fate/Stay Night.

@davidrevoy I'm barely at the sketch level of my artwork...I've put an APB out on my missing motivation. I hope someone finds it soon, it's all alone, and scared.

David Revoy

@ghostRadioGames The frustration, the motivation, the resistance to go back after many fails. Oh I know that; especially when going outside of the comfort zone to gain skill. It's hard! I have no other solution than being stuborn at core. I wish you'll find the same rebellion against that part that resist in you. Courage! ๐Ÿ™‚

@davidrevoy As someone learning to draw, this is pretty inspirational. Thanks for sharing the 4k version!

@davidrevoy I've been interested in exploring different ways of sketching or planning artworks lately. Did you do a contour/line sketch before this, or did you just go right into blocking in areas of colour? I'd be very interested in the process you went through for this sketch, and any tips for people looking to sketch this way!

@greenwithenby hey! Yes, I started with a thin pencil scribble in the same vein as this one davidrevoy.com/data/images/blo , it helps me to solve the 'what to draw and where' question, and set basic direction, general lines and get proportion. It's a really temporary guideline and I prefer to call that one a 'wireframe' or 'skeleton' to not be tempted to get a real drawing and start rendering parts. I use a thin tool so this lines influencate the minimum my values when I paint under โ†’ 1/2

and I reduce also the opacity of this wireframe. Then I start painting the silhouette (with help of layers) and I paint the model in shadows (only global illumination, 'sky dome' light). Then I start adding keylight to the center of interest; here the face. That gives me a direction to apply same light direction to all object on the scene. I try to keep a clean split per object and not 'model' gradients.
That's all my step and discipline so far to 'block' the scene. ๐Ÿ™‚
