Q: is it open source?
A: mail me a floppy and I will get you the code

(Seriously this computer has no USB or anything so I will open source it once in better shape as getting the code out is a pain)

@maartje lemme know where to mail the floppy to. i'll even pre-format it!

@maartje that's odd that you can access toots via Mastadon federation, but can't connect to GitHub or some mechanism to share the code? What protocols are required then to federate? I recall WfW had TCP/IP, just about.

@simonspringall I sure could FTP it out.... Git well i would need a Git client (optionally SSH) so that will be harder... the code fits on one diskette so that is probably the fastest way.
I have ways to get it out but for it to sync....

@maartje @simonspringall do you have a network card uou could hook into uour Lan? Wfw had decent networking

@simonspringall @maartje theoretically yes - but you had to restart every time your IP changes πŸ˜…

Jeez, why not join the future and use that perfectly good CD drive? I'm jealous since i can't afford a CD Drive, I'm stuck using my ZIP Drive...

Maartje

@Charadon it cannot burn CDs… and no CD-RW read so not wasting plastic for evey bug fix

Charadon

@maartje And even if you had a cd burner and CD-RWs, this is before windows had the feature where it would treat CDs as removable storage, isn't it? (Also, I forgor the /sarcasm in my last post. oof)

Maartje

@Charadon that was added in euh very late 98 or even XP

Charadon

@maartje This is going to sound dumb, but what if you could e-mail it to yourself? Though, at that point, a locally hosted FTP server would be the best way forward lol

Maartje

@Charadon I just use diskettes at this point I love that medium

@maartje try using smb or ftp to get the files off, I do this with my pc98 and unix boxes a lot.

@maartje hello πŸ˜‚

You Can use a USB floppy drive if you want

davidak

@maartje i think in worst case, you could get the HDD out (IDE?) and attach it to a modern computer by an usb-adapter.

very cool project!

Maartje

@davidak oooooh I forgot I installed a SD to IDE in that PC πŸ˜… anyhow solved it with diskettes

@maartje Reminds me of the days when you could get Linux distros on CDs by mail :)
