3/ Now one of the great things about the Fediverse is that all these Fediverse are apps talking to each other. You don't need another account to see stuff from PeerTube, or Funkwhale, or Lemmy. So why have I created four accounts anyway? (Contd.) 4/ So I've had this account (@atomicpoet) since 2018. I believe in keeping this instance functioning. I donate money to Mastodon. And on this account, I've build relationships with a few important devs. For example, on a few occasions, I talk to @Gargron about the future of Mastodon, what features should be build, what UI/UX tweaks need to happen, that sort of thing. And I also try to spread the word on fresh news and features. Also, people follow me here. As for other accounts? (Cont.) 5/ My account @atomicpoet@peerverse.space exists to run a Pixelfed instance. Right now 8 people use it and registrations are closed. I've also used it to share record reviews, my physical music collection, and art photography. I've been running this since April, and it's taught me a lot about admining for the Fediverse. I've been tempted to open registrations but I've been too lazy to fix some email issues that need to be configured. (Cont.) 6/ My account at @atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org exists because I was sick and tired of mastodon.social always having issues during the past month. So I created atomicpoet.org, an inexpensive self-hosted Pleroma instance that would allow me to talk on the Fediverse, and perform well—even when mastodon.social kicks the bucket. And it succeeds at this function. Registrations are closed because I want to keep that instance lean and mean. (Cont.) 9/ The truth is, the Fediverse works better when there's many instances hosting small communities. IMO (not shared by everyone), it's all the more better when you run single-user instances because that ensures total ownership of your social data. Federation is only the first step in a better social media model. We need to integrate peer-to-peer functions too—but I'll open that can of worms some other day! (Contd.) 10/ I've previously said that federation is *the* Fediverse's killer feature. Hell, it's in the name. If there's no federation, what's the point? Should any Fediverse app remove federation functionality, it has no reason to exist—it should be thrown in a dumpster fire. Examples of these dumpster fire apps inside Truth Social and Counter Social—all which have essentially removed federation functionality. But that's okay! Without federation these apps are destined to die. (Contd.) 11/ If federation interests you, move beyond Mastodon! Dip your toe into other Fediverse apps. Share photos with Pixelfed. Host videos with Peertube. The Fediverse isn't just a clever name. It's a universe of Fediverse protocols, apps, instances... and you! (End.) @atomicpoet my dude, while I love that viewpoint, the whole #twittermigration isn’t happening because a bunch of new users are suddenly fascinated by a new technology. They are doing it because of the tantrums being thrown by a certain corrupt billionaire. @richardc Sorry, you got to be more clear because I'm not reading between the lines. Why does this thread have to do with Elon Musk? And why should that impact an explanation for why I have multiple accounts and instances? @atomicpoet I also have a second for romance writers and I'll do a third for movies and TV shows. This main is to watch, learn and post, erm, toot at large. I'm grateful I'm not the only person doing this. |

This just scratches the surface. The Fediverse is a huge ecosystem of social apps.
