I just literally got stuck in the #Windows11 install wizard because they do not expect network drivers to be missing anymore.

There was no way to tell him where they were - in fact they were right in the .iso that was mounted as SATA DVD drive. But in Microsofts infinite wisdom they removed the option to install #Windows without network AND removed the option to install the necessary drivers. So it will simply... stop doing anything. No button even worked anymore.

Absolute garbage.

@Natanox Yep, MS enforces you to sign up for an account at install time. Total no go

@avisf Not in the current version as enough people were really angry about it. I could proceed after adding a standard NIC - however it HAS to connect to Windows Update and won't give you an option not to. Anyway, only needed that trashy OS for my blogpost on how to get rid of it and flash a proper OS on a stick, so I'll basically never open it again unless for such kind of things or to support family with their devices full of shitty software.

@Natanox have you tried installing Arch Linux instead
Xerz! :blobcathearttrans:
@Natanox well you can, but it requires pulling off a command line with a secret hotkey lol
Polychrome :clockworkheart:

@xerz @Natanox do you know the secret hotkey? :blobthinkingeyes:โ€‹

Baa ๐Ÿฑ
@polychrome @xerz @Natanox it's F10

You can also upgrade windows to Pro from the OOBE using an Evaluation key and then create a local admin account, you might be able to to this with your current version and no network, haven't tried with no network:

- F10

- Run `slui.exe /upk`

- Run `changepk.exe /ProductKey VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T`

It will error but just ignore it and reboot, I will now be Pro and you can create a local account.

It won't be activated though and will eventually ask for a real Pro key, full walkthrough here: https://superuser.com/a/1734974/881206

@Natanox Wow. I used to be able to skip it. I'll have to save the older ISO for Windows 11.

Jonly

@Natanox Like if you dont have wifi integrated like in a laptop did any wifi work out of the box with windows?
Like my pcie wifi card sure doesnt and the few usb based i used also never did. they worked under linux tho flawless

Natasha Nox ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ

@Jonly Usually not, but I assume Microsoft expects every OEM to work with them so there won't be any device without at least one working NIC.

Classical corporate monopoly thoughts, expecting everyone to see them as the worlds centre.

The Ferridge

@Natanox Every day Microsoft seems to stray further from making a lick of sense

Meko #nowar
@Natanox interesting will they force same policies for enterprise distributions like LTSC?
Not Joe

@Natanox maybe look into windows ame if older versions of win 10 are ok

Natasha Nox ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ

@joe I just needed Win11 for a guide on my blog on how to create a bootable USB stick with Linux on it. ๐Ÿ˜… Didn't use their trashy OS for years and will never ever voluntarily move to their Win11 advertisement platform.

@Natanox@chaos.social this was one of the controversies around the release of Win11, even in the beta period, that it was an online only install.
