"If only American billionaires could buy the EU, like we bought the US presidency, stealing people's data while destroying planet Earth would be so much more profitable."

@Ciela @randahl ...or rather "Europe is on the track to the right".
Its difficult to buy Europe because you have to buy many national governments plus the EU parliament, but that's work in progress.

Zeborah

@randahl It is sad, though. More countries should enact EU privacy policies, then life would be so much simpler for him (and better for the rest of us).

Bill Bennett

@randahl This might explain why the tech billionaires are so keen on Putin, because they may well get an opportunity to buy Europe from him if everything goes to plan.

Jon

@randahl is he really wearing a huge gold chain in his profile pic? Posing as a gangster rapper? ๐Ÿคฃ

Oli

@jhamre well noticed - that is totally weird - maybe some AI crap- seems appropriate

benny

@randahl how about running all other Meta products everywhere except the EU, too?

O'Schell

@randahl Some could say that the EU is actually the land of the free...

@randahl@mastodon.social it's interesting to see the replies to this. Very very onesided. And that from the people using his platform in a situation where which microbloging app you use has become a deeply tribal thing. His tribe is fighting him on it.

Also I find it interesting that his account isn't federated. I'd expect them to try and run a PR stunt with him enabling federation (and having a 100+ people team workinf moderation on followers and replies for him, but still). (that last part is not true, it's actually federated, I just get easily confused by computer stuff)

@randahl "gee, if only the EU had well and trully no fucks to give about its people"

I've bashed the EU for many of it's faults, but goddamnit if I won't die on the hill the EU is doing good with a lot of its refulations that prevented dogshit like the Cybertruck on our roads, or Copilot on our computers
Avocado Toast

@randahl nobody even wants this crappy shit but that'll never stop them from destroying the planet and governments to force it on them

Sad Australia doesn't have EU's interest in or protection from online privacy laws and digital rights.

Good that we enjoy some of the benefits by proxy but nowhere near enough.

Exact same situation in Canada.

Edit* if not a little worse.

Sorry, reiterating.

#Mistral #MistralAI is my favorite #AI provider at this point. It's incredibly useful and talented, and totally opensource, you can download the weights and run locally. Also has tutorials for customizable safety guardrails and fine-tuning.

Vive la France!

@randahl Zuk has been quiet for a while, let other people reveal how big of psychopaths they are but it seems he is gradually believing that it is ok to show he is also one of the group after all.

Tzafrir

@randahl

It's more than that. With the GDPR, the EU has set the global standard. Here it seems that the EU does not. So is the EU regulation setting a global standard here?

The Animal and the Machine

@randahl
Again, they talk like Iโ€™m upset by it. If you switch the word AI for โ€˜trashโ€™, the only thing upsets me here is that Iโ€™m not in the EU.

:emacs: Douk-douk :t_blink:

@randahl
So, so sad Zuck. And it's fucking tragic that you cry online about it, get a therapist and grow up.

@hastur @randahl

I'm sure he has more than one. Likely the best money can buy.

There is no cure for being a douche. The douche has gotta want to change.

more snooping, more right wing crap forced onto people by alogrithms unaudited by anyome, comsuming loadsa energy from fossil fuel.

Dekks

@randahl

its a pity so many foss people are happy to work for the likes of meta without thinking about the damage they do.

Abazigal

@randahl I donโ€™t see the problem, Zuckerbergโ€™s arrogant tone aside. The EU has its rules, and American companies are free to choose not to abide by them and withhold their services from the region. It just means that actions have consequences for all parties involved.

ApaulD

@randahl lucky eu citizens. Their government protects them.

Aerofreak | DE/EN

@ApaulD
It doesn't just fall into our laps. But we have organisations and lone fighters like the Austrian Maximilian Schrems who are fighting for our rights. And we (still) have a functioning legal system.

Fredrik Bjรถreman

@randahl โ€Imagine if you hadnโ€™t brought this upon yourself, bro.โ€

Peter H

@randahl Why doesn't he tell the whole story?

โ€œWeโ€™re launching AI to interact even more with users, so they spend more time on our platforms and we can collect even more data from them to sell ads they donโ€™t like, don't need and probably block. Itโ€™s a shame we canโ€™t do that in the EU, because privacy is a little bit more important over there.โ€

Canโ€™t wait for Ukraine to join the EU. Iโ€™m not a fan of the AI-for-everything movement.

Walrus

@randahl

They already did us huge damage by buying #Brexit to enable them to steal the NHS.

s1m0n4

@randahl sad for whom? Zuckerberg? Because as a citizen of an EU member state, I am not sad at all about this!

:ulfr:

@randahl When I read "AI advances", I think "intro to the first Terminator film".

"Ai" is not an anadvance in anything except waste of resources. Billionaires are advancing their troops though.

HuisOpDeGaard

@randahl Itโ€™s sad that the US is not a value based society like the EU, which protects itโ€™s citizens through itโ€™s committment to the #CharterofFundamentalRightsoftheEU
#zuck is welcome as long as he (legally) demonstrates committment to its values and norms.

However, the โ€œ#CambridgeAnalytica scandalโ€, โ€œ#schrems or the propagation of #humanrights abuses through #facebook on โ€œ#rohingya for example, may indicate why he may continue to find this difficult .

@randahl iโ€™m pretty sure everywhere doesnโ€™t include C hina.

@randahl Anything that makes Zuck sad makes me happy. I know far too many people who are addicted to FB.

@randahl
This assumption that the AI 'advances' are sadly not going to be gifted to the EU wrankles a bit.

Changing a couple of words makes it clear:

"Putin 3days
It's sad that I basically have to tell our teams to launch our new drone attacks everywhere except NATO at this point.'

I'm not feeling the loss right now.

Either buy Europe or bring war to us if they can't.

@randahl

Almost as profitable as a mobile phone company claiming they need your biometric data to take your cash to pay a prepaid fee, claiming they're doing so to protect YOU from harm in the way it sells a fraudster five phones using only your phone number for an ID.

That's after they've been made the subject of a consent decree for failing to provide adequate physical and virtual security and for using your data without consent for personal financial gain. Suits some companies to a T.

@randahl

I won't join the chorus telling billionaire sociopath (redundant, I know) Zuck where to look where the sun doesn't shine - but the ultraviolet light does.

President Elmo is trying out how to purchase the EU, by practicing on Airstrip One's next election. He promises to triple the amount spent on the average UK election to put Reform and Nigel Farage in power. Under Elmo, Fascism always arrives on the back of a clown.

Ben Todd

@randahl

Fuk #brexit and all the billionaire capitalists that paid for all the campaign propaganda.

NeadReport

@randahl Hey, here's an idea. Let's copy/paste Twitter drivel and get everybody all fucking riled up here on the Fediverse.
No.
That's not an idea.
