I like to think that my 45 years of reporting on technology and business has left me sceptical rather than cynical but the behaviour of some tech companies is such that sometimes readers might be better served by the latter approach. There are not enough New Zealand posts about trains and railways on Mastodon. Please do something about this. “New Zealand achieved 91 per cent renewable electricity generation in the June 2023 quarter”. That’s pretty damn good. 100 per cent might be tough in the short term, but this is promising. @billbennett The problem comes as we accelerate decarbonizing, and need to replace that energy with electricity. Or export the problems to somewhere cheap and dirty, which is more likely if there is no incentive for investment at this end. Heard @aurynn talking Mastodon on RNZ Nine-to-Noon this morning and ticked the subject off my list of possible topics for this Thursday’s technology slot. @billbennett |

(Fixed it for you)
@billbennett My grandparents lived opposite the railway station at Wingatui from about 1954 to 1990. We spent many happy days playing at the station. Nowadays it's closed as an actual railway station. Trains still pass through of course, like this one back in 2015.
