@eclectech never seen these close up. They’re a marvel at a distance but that plating work is awe-inspiring! (And I gotta say, I was half expecting to see somebody dancing out of the nose 😂) @Andy_European I would argue that it's both (the artist modelled them on Clydesdale horses). Both are mentioned in my ALTtxt descriptions. @eclectech So beautiful! They remind me of the sand horses in Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke... @ambivalena Thank you! I have some on a sunnier day too, but I do love them against the grey. @eclectech I was not familiar with this. Amazing and cool. Capturing a few people at the base shows how massive this display is. @NeadReport I love it. I spent some time trying to get them without people milling about, but I think you're right, and this one with a few people showing the scale is definitely a favourite. @eclectech I love the contrast of the dark sky and the bright metal here. You've got me wondering if I can make a detour to see them on my planned trip to Orkney next year. @eclectech @sheepnik They light up at night 😊 We went around 4 I think on a winter's day and it was magical. The tour wasn't bad either @Walkaholic @sheepnik Lovely. I've only seen them from the road at night. Really should try and visit properly in the dark. @eclectech Great photo, especially with the people in front and that one person (?) in bright red. @Judeet99 Thank you. I've been looking at that dash of red and had to go back to the high res to work it out - it's an umbrella being held by the person to its left! Its been blown inside out by the wind, which is presumably why its also to the side rather than above their head. Got to love Scottish weather 🌬️ @eclectech I think it absolutely makes the photo. A lucky anomaly perhaps as it certainly doesn't look 'planned'. @eclectech I think our instincts 'know' when it's a good photo. I've taken photos since the days of black and white 35mm, developing my own film and doing the prints in my dad's darkroom and know composition, light and luck all play a part. |
