Trains are so great. Someone should invent trains

@mcc What if trains, but all private compartments and their own wheels

mcc

@glennf unironically I think cars/taxis should be able to link together into big snakecars so you can use the motile unit idiom within cities ("last mile") and the train idiom between them

econads

@mcc @glennf
Deutschebahn now has an electric car sharing scheme, on top of it's existing bike sharing.
They're pretty good, if you don't count the terrible punctuality. Which is kind of a core requirement.

@mcc What if trains could be less efficient and use 500,000% more electricity though? πŸ€”
Maybe a train with an AI conductor? 😏
(Sorry please no gun πŸ”«πŸ’–)

Alex Feinman

@mcc they even have pincers with which to grab each other. So basically crabs too!

ferunando

@mcc oh. and the fact that people keep trying to re-invent trains is the expression of carcinization in engineering domains?

Daniel Marks

@mcc I prefer planes that don't fly, but instead push themselves along sliding bars.

@profdc9 @mcc
So a shit train with no space and no restaurant car?

Stephen Collins

@mcc some white dude will do it, call it Choochooly, and try to monetise it in previously unseen unpleasant ways. They'll be hoping to cash out before their SeriesB even comes through.

@mcc This sounds like a job for Large Technology

JimJoe

@mcc And make them really fast trains!

JimJoe

@mcc Since we love our roads so much, why don’t we make super fast self driving buses that go 200mph. Dedicate a lane to them, carry about 50-70 people at a time. Electric with swappable batteries at each stop. Stagger them minutes apart. Cheaper than laying tracks.

mcc

@JimJoe Bus Rapid Transit is imo underrated. Requires lower initial outlays for infrastructure at least

Evelyn, who Just. Can't. Even.

@mcc @JimJoe Seattle has BRT on the Big Main Drag Through Town. It takes a lot of the pain out of riding a bus.

JimJoe

@Gorfram @mcc I was thinking highway 5 all the north and south.

Evelyn, who Just. Can't. Even.

@JimJoe That would be cool.

*although, to be a drag, that corridor is already pretty well served by rail; & there might be bigger "bang for the buck" in places/routes where the tracks don't go (or no longer go).

**&, to be a bigger drag, you'd probably need new pavement & road alignments to get towards the kind of speed you're thinking of

***I can be a really big drag, can't I?

@mcc

Trains. Trains with many many many cars.

Trains that can get every asshole suit into NYC and back so they Don't Screw Up The Roads Driving Like Assholes.

We don't need more 'cops'.

We need Blue Thunder shredding Mercedes and BMW assholes to ribbons on Rt 3, Rt 280, and Rt 78 when they drive like Assholes.

Tell those Fucks its included free with their taxes.

@mcc I’m proud to announce my new cars on tracks service as a service, funded by crypto, and powered by AI. All sales will be processed on Blockchain. Customer support by ChatGPT. You’re Welcomeℒ️

@mcc You're on to something there. Imagineers like you will one day inspire the world .

Zach (Ela) - TechnicalOtter

@mcc I once heard trains described as the engineering equivalent of the crab in evolution.
Both are seen as the most efficient state for transport and life respectively. Apparently.

Zach (Ela) - TechnicalOtter

@mcc the term has returned to me. It's "carcinisation".

llewelly

@mcc
but this time I want trains where people have priority over garbage (this comment USA-specific).

pfabphilou

@mcc Here you can see ducks pretending to be trains

Norman Wilson

@mcc Reading this on a train. Endorsed.

Frank Sonderborg

@mcc Trains of thought, Bridal trains, and not forgetting those trains for moving unwanted water;-O
