@mojala ActivityPub is an open spec, Meta does not have to join a foundation to implement it :) @mojala @pfefferle won't happen. One of the goals for the social web is to convince us that our digital footprints should be completely public. If all of our data is out in the open, there's nothing left for #Meta to protect. @fromjason @pfefferle Just because something is public doesnāt mean it canāt be used against you. And a fully transparent panopticon is of course something meta could well exploit and monetize. @pfefferle I look forward to seeing this federated future! Ironically, the main reason I signed up with @wordpressdotcom was because of the #ActivityPub plugin. I think with a few tweaks, #WordPress could become the super app within the #Fediverse. I do hope the #BuddyPress & #bbPress teams jump on board, as greater ActivityPub integration could help rejuvenate these social WordPress āprojectsā (as they would provide competitive balance against #Facebook & #Reddit). @darnell @pfefferle @wordpressdotcom As both a Fediverse and a #WordPress developer, I fully agree with Darnell on #BuddyPress and #bbPress being WordPress tech that should integrate ActivityPub ASAP! @darnell @wordpressdotcom @tchambers I would assume that bbpress already works out of the box, simply activate all the bbpress custom post types in the AP settings. An ironically I had a discussion with the BuddyPress team yesterday š https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C02RQBYUG/p1727291024757029 let's see how this turns out... BuddyPress will be a really big task! @darnell @pfefferle 40 bucks a month for a business plan so I can federate my blog? No thanks. I'll just link to it. @farbel @darnell ActivityPub works on every plan, even the free ones! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4pmWufYRr0 @pfefferle @darnell Thank you! I was looking at the plugin. now on davidscottmoyer.com@davidscottmoyer.com @farbel @pfefferle Welcome to the #Fediverseā¦again! š #ActivityPub support is available for all @wordpressdotcom plans. The only major difference is that I can change my username handle for my #WordPress blogs. @darnell @pfefferle Thanks! So cool. I am an intermittent blogger these days, but it will be nice to get a bit more exposure for my longer fomat stuff. @farbel @pfefferle To each their own, but after comparing @wordpressdotcom plans to less expensive rivals (yes, even #WPEngineābefore the crazy drama), I realized that I am paying for 24/7 customer service, world class security & unrestricted bandwidth (no limitation on site visitors). Latter is key in case a major #Threads or #Flipboard account links to your blog! š It is also a way to give back to the #WordPress community by supporting a creatorās platform. @pfefferle I certainly don't trust Meta to have the best interests of the public in mind, and in light of recent events, I'm not sure I trust Automattic either. @pfefferle @matv1 I'm just the dev-guy and we still have to prove that the fediverse has more reach than traditional networks to convince PR and marketing! @pfefferle I understand how it works, dont worry. It just annoys me sometimes when I see so many companies and orgs that have a lot to say about a healthy web and socials etc and then see the icons at the bottom of their website. |
@pfefferle When do you think we get the first Cambridge Analytica or Rohingya crisis using ActivityPub and the Social Web foundation, seeing as Meta is also a member?
